Post your art for the LOGD contest here!

We need 2 pieces of art, one to replace the dragon & circle that appears on the Yarbrough login page (this is apparently copyrighted and we need to replace it), and another to put on LoGD merchandise that we'll start offering in the near future. Post your art here, or if you don't know how to do that, you can email it to me at logd@mightye.org, and I'll post it here for you.

A few rules:
• You can post a low res or watermarked version of the image to the forum, so long as you have a version available if you win the contest that meets the rest of the requirements.
• For the merchandise art, please make sure you have a high resolution version of the image available to us. Ultimately it should be able to be cleanly blown up to at least somewhere around the size of a sheet of US Letter paper. Vector based art gets extra credit!
• For the login art, it should not be larger than 250x250 pixels (if you're a little bigger but close, that'll be ok).
• For the login art, it should be able to have a transparent background so that it ties in with the existing theme well.
• For merchandise art, you may choose to provide merely art, or art and text as a whole. If you elect to add text, please provide the LotGD.net web address (http://LotGD.net) within the text.
• You may submit as many entries in either category as you wish. You may not possess two "ranks" in any one category though (eg, you cannot be both Grand Prize and Second Prize winner for the login art, though you might rank in both login art and merchandise art).

A few legalities:
• For the login art, if your art is chosen as winning art, you will retain ownership of the copryight, but give explicit permission for the general public to use it on their Legend of the Green Dragon websites, compliant with the GNU GPL (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html#GPL). Credit will be given to you in the About page in the next distribution of the code. You agree to give permission to the LotGD.net staff to use the art within the scope of LotGD.net services and merchandise.
• For the merchandise art, if your art is chosen as winning art, this is considered work for hire, and you agree to permit the staff of lotgd.net to use this art at their discretion, with out royalties aside from the price of the prize of the contest. As work for hire, you surrender copyright on the art to LotGD.net staff (this means you cannot resell it or give it for free to another party, and you certify that it is free of any usage permissions or ownership already given to other parties), though you may include it in your personal portfolio(s). Credit for the art will be given to you, and you may sign the art visibly (your signature will be preserved in any merchandise)
• By submitting any art, you certify that the art is free of copyright aside from that which you possess (i.e. it does not contain in whole or in part any images which you do not possess the copyright for).
• For art which is *not* chosen as winning art, you retain full ownership and copyright to the art, LotGD.net staff retains no rights to republish or use your art in any way unless specific permission is granted outside of this contest.
• This contest is void where any of its rules are prohibited by local law, and in this case you may not participate in the contest.

Prizes (login art):
• Grand Prize: $50.00, payable by PayPal, money order, LotGD.net donator points, logd.dragoncat.net donator points, logd.mightye.org donator points or LotGD.net merchandise (or any combination thereof at your discretion), and a custom title on LotGD.net, logd.dragoncat.net, or logd.mightye.org in compliance with the title policy on the appropriate site.
• Second & Third place prices: $25.00 in LotGD.net donator points, logd.dragoncat.net donator points, or logd.mightye.org donator points (or any combination thereof), and a custom title on LotGD.net, logd.dragoncat.net, or logd.mightye.org in compliance with the title policy on the appropriate site. With regard to ownership, this art is not considered "winning," and you will retain full ownership.

Prizes (Merchandise art):
• Grand Prize: $100.00, payable by PayPal, money order, LotGD.net donator points, logd.dragoncat.net donator points , logd.mightye.org donator points or LotGD.net merchandise (or any combination thereof at your discretion), and a custom title on LotGD.net, logd.dragoncat.net, or logd.mightye.org in compliance with the title policy on the appropriate site.

Decisions:
• Art will be judged by the LotGD.net staff (admins + moderators), and based on their collective conclusion, the winners will be announced.
• Art will be accepted from now through Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 12:00pm US Eastern.

If possible, and I certainly don't want anyone breaking any spamming rules, let other people who don't play LotGD or visit this forum know about the contest.

There is a cash prize, so non-players can participate.

A great graphic would really help the game and sell merchandise, and we want the best we can get.

I have a really cool idea. I think I'll either tell it to Ithilden or tell my contact and let her draw it (and of course if she wins will get everything)

How about a close up of a lizard's head? ;)

One thing though: please make an option in the Preferences to enable or disable the graphics, should they be implemented. If it's not text-only I won't be able to play, for various reasons.

The in game graphic is only for the log in page, to replace the graphic that's there now.

Some skins (redmond) include a logo graphic - that might me changed as well.

But the game itself is staying text-only.

As JCP said, I'm not keenly interested in adding in-game graphics, there's a certain flavor that would be lost with that, as well as a loss of the playability for many people (since it is largely designed to be a work-safe game meant to be played over lunch breaks and such). The login dragon on Yarbrough is the only graphic I'm intending to change atm, though if the new graphic fits the Redmond header, I'll put it there (with the idea being that the Redmond theme is the most work-friendly one, and i'd want to keep it that way).

Jamie Feerick sent me this over the weekend, but I just haven't had a chance to post it yet:

This is just a draft, as I don't have much time right now. I plan on etching some runes into the ring and using a different color for it. The dragon still needs work too.

I guess it's too photo-realistic for lotgd, but I suck at hand-drawn art.

Maybe I'll work on it some more around christmas...

Oh, just in case you're all wondering, the art doesn't necessarily *have* to depict a dragon. If you're bad at drawing dragons but good at drawing people, draw a person or people instead! I happened to encounter this today (which was not made for this game, it's for another game), and it would have worked well!

Well, that's not quite what I had in mind. I just can not draw, sketch, paint, etc. So if someone wants to draw it, they can.

I have some art which was sent to me before the deadline, but which I haven't had a chance to post here yet (catching up from vacation and all).

This from Lotus:

Login Art:
http://lotgd.net/forum/LotGDart/LoGDLogin.png

Merchandise Art:
http://lotgd.net/forum/LotGDart/LoGDMerchandise.png

The amazing thing about the above art is that these are done in Illustrator, which gives us a lot of flexibility for placing on merchandise since it's scalable with out quality loss.

I still have one more piece of art I'm waiting on, I had asked him to make a change since I felt it was too similar to another copyrighted work, but was a good piece.

Oh darn...I'm sad I missed this. There should be a random art contest some other time. I love art contests.

MightyE i presume that you didnt get my E-mail so i'll just post my design here, you can just email me back with your opinion, i have an arrow pointing to the scales and wing form i thought looked cool, but ill leavethe choosing up to you

though its not very visible right now the scales i have an arrow pointing to is similar to "Fish Scales", to give it a more reptilian look oppose to the usual "Perfect Squared" scale pattern( no sneak im not talkign about math and perfect squares... hehehe  )

and the "Bird Wings" i thought gave it a more distinct look insted of the ever popular "Bat Wing"

for the Login Circle im going have a bunch of ruins around it (i learned how to spell "Green Dragon" in elf ruins according to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien so the runes will have some meaning besides looking cool)

after i get your decision, i'll edit the drawing to your liking then i'll redraw itonto a white background and see if i can do some size adjusting(if anyone could help me with the size adjusting that would be GREAT)
