True - whilst I admit the complexity of balancing and adding new races and classes is significant, it could make the game more varied. Some kind of proper class system like DnD would be nice (i.e. the 2E way that THAC0 improved at a rate per level depending on yer speciality.) Hence mages wouldn't be as good at fighting as thieves etc.
Mind you, that wouldn't be anything to implement anytime soon...'twould take ages, but IMHO worth it.

MightyE, there are a few on some of the various modded servers out there which look reasonably well balanced.. We should probably contact them and ask them for those things specifically.

Whilst I havn't seen all of the LotGD servers by any means, some of them have very different systems because of different counterbalances. Having said that, why have a large codebase if it isn't going to be used?

It might be interesting to see a Barbarian class with something like the following special buffs...
Berserk (1 use point) - Add UserLevel points to their attack, subtract UserLevel/3 points from their defence.
Shield (2 use points) - Add UserLevel/3 points to their defense
Dirty fighting (3 use points) - Damage the barbarian deals is increased by X points. Similarly damage dealt to the barbarian is reduced by X points.
Summon Horde (5 use points) - Like summon dead, except you're summoning Y barbarians to your aid.

Why would we need Dark Elves? We have elves, it's up to Role-Playing to be a specific sort, I'd say.
Lizardmen could be a possibility, tough and hard to kill/12HP per level instead of 10. (Ban McD from ever choosing this. ;> )
I also think the racial abilities for Trolls and Elves should be adjusted to a percentage-based bonus. Like a small permanent buff, because otherwise only Humans and Dwarves maintain their individual advantages after a few DKs. 1 point in a stat barely makes a difference after a certian point, but for a role-playing aspect, it's nice to not 'want' to switch because you're less powerful than the other races now.
Also, remember that you don't have to just "add-on" to the current stuff.
A total revamp is possible, if it all works out. MightyE is usually open to all good ideas.

I agree with Kether's point about the Troll and Elf races being devalued after a while - Sneakabout is actually a Drow Mage/Thief, so the Dwarven persona is just until the Elf race gets powered up... (and it's fun to play something different.). Lizardmen (or something with extra HP) would be very good for farmcreatures...
I think that care would have to be taken when introducing anything new - a good measure of whether something is unbalancing is to ask 'Will everyone choose this race, or are the existing races still good enough to keep people choosing them...?'

I agree with Kether also, but I do like the fact of having a "Barbarian" race with those abilities posted above. In another server, I've seen the 'swordsman' class quite a few times, I think that would be a good for slaughtering attacks instead of mystical abilities.
could you make a subrace addon???
like if you choose elf you could rename it???
so in your bio it would say something like
Race: Elf (Drow)
no difference from being a elf or drow, just for the looks :D

The earliest publication of the word "Drohw" I can vouch for is in Sir Walter Scott's "Demonology" published in 1900 en regards to the dusky elves in the territory of the Earl of Bothwell in which he was making remarks upon a witch trial and razing of the 16th century.
The girl was an innocent with very little reason to accuse of this godless treason aside from her relating tales of faeries and elves and the murder of faerie children by Drohw to explain noises heard at night.
The fey rewarded her for an intervention against the Drohw, (her own scream) and of course, the good deeds she performed with that reward caused her to be burned.
Still, if you're afraid Wizard's of the Coast has too tight of a hold on one spelling. Use the Scottish spelling.

heres a kind of race
elemental
buff=gives you .5 extra attack and .5 extra defence
and also gives you 5 extra hitpoints for every level
you can alter that as much as you want

1 extra hp is somewhat usless, it would have to be like 5 or something to actualy make an impact

Ninja Stealth- makes you harder to hit
Throw Smoke Bomb- deals damage AND makes you harder to hit.
Shiruken- Throw ninja stars
Shiruken Storm- Throw lots of ninja stars
Draw Katana- temporarily changes your weapon to “Katana,” tripling your attack
Class: Cleric
Special Stuff:
Heal- heals by 20% of max hp
Divine Sword- double attack
Divine Shield- double defense
Remedy- heals by 50% of max hp
Elixir- fully heals HP
Class: Druid
Special Stuff:
Mist- causes mist to enshroud the enemy, making you harder to hit
Vine Trap- stops enemy for 3-5 turns
Mudslide- causes a large area of ground to come up and hit the enemy
Barkskin- triples defense temporarily
Summon Treants- summons treants from the forest to fight for you (kind of like skelly crew only much stronger).
Class: Beast master
Special Stuff:
All of his abilities summon familiars to fight for him for 5-10 turns or so. Whatever familiars he can summon and stuff are up to you.
Class: Soldier (human only)
Special Stuff:
Draw 2 Handed Sword- changes your weapon to “2 Handed Sword” for a set amount of time, increasing your attack by 20-50%
Use Shield- changes your armor to “shield” for a set amount of time, increasing your defense by 20-50%
Summon Mount- summons a regular mount (cow, pony, or war-horse) to temporarily help you in battle, the specific type of mount depends on the level of specialty, NOT the person’s level. (Starts off with cow, the when he learns first aid, it is a pony, then when he learns call to arms it is a war-horse)
First Aid- heal by 50% max HP
Call to Arms- summons some soldiers to fight for you (like skelly crew, but much stronger).
Class: Archer (elf only)
Special Stuff:
Eagle’s Eye- no chance of riposting or missing for 5-10 turns.
Multi Arrow- fires 3-5 arrows at once, basically a one-turn skelly crew.
Arrow Shower- fires double the arrows of Multi Arrow
Crystal Arrow- arrow deals triple damage for 1 turn
Divine Arrow- arrow deals 5 times damage for 1 turn
Class: Blacksmith (dwarf only)
Special Stuff:
Drink Ale- same affect as drinking an ale at the inn, but without the cost…a skill no dwarf should be without!
Throw Anvil- self-explanatory
Throw Hammer- you know how the blacksmith’s hammer gets REALLY hot when he forges stuff? Well now you can take that hammer and smash in the face of the nearest monster with it!
Sharpen Weapon- gives your weapon a “+1” for 50 turns or so. It would have to be enough to make it more worth while then Poisen Blade
Smith Weapon- same as Sharpen Weapon, but double the time.
Class: Head Hunter (troll only)
Special Stuff:
Decorate Weapon: Puts a disembodied head on your weapon that scares your enemy (lower enemy attack)
Hunter Speed- makes you harder to hit.
Throw spear- umm…throw a spear…I guess?
Impale- impales an enemy with a spear
Spear Volley- throw a volley of spears (basically Throw Spear 5-10 times, but in one turn)

Methinks you have been playing Final Fantasy too much... All are good ideas, but most are insanely broken and would need to be toned down.

PLEASE! This thread is over a year old... the responses by MightyE, Kendaer/Moonchilde and Sneakabout are no longer current.
We already have piles of races. Central chooses not to add ANY more at the current time because code plans in the near future make it too difficult.
