I have a question! Can anyone save bitmaps as transparent GIFs WITHOUT losing the color quality? Everytime I try to save my avatar as a GIF, because I want it to have transparents, it screws up the color! >.< Someone, PM me if you can..or..just post here...Whichever...

You should be able to do that in PhotoShop, but I'm not skilled in the use. Perhaps someone else here can give some pointers? (I am not visually artistic.)

I don't have Photoshop. With the art programs I DO have, I've tried to convert it, but the color just keeps screwing up! It either changes the color, makes a million little dots, or a combination of both.

The version by Mortimer is better, but still a little big...

I find it annoying that we can have such massive sigs but are limited to 80x80 avatars.... means I can't use my 100x100 avatar I usually use... hrmm....

Mortimer's version's a lot more in line with a good sig, in general a sig shouldn't go over 100-150px

My sigs are normally half the height of the one I redid for Khalid. My general philosophy is that the graphics should be small enough that they load quickly and don't take the focus away from the text of the posts. There might be a setting in the administrative functions to limit the size of sigs.

Graphics should also be small enough that if a post on a forum has 20 replies, dial-up users aren't cursing to the gods as their computer sits there and downloads 20 different 600k images.

Angul, one of my friends has the same problem. I don't know how to fix it, but if you send me picture, like the square section that you want to be an avatar, I can resize and save it as a JPG for you. Or, you can just send me the avatar. But, I can only save it as a JPG for now. I need the school comps for GIFS, and I'm on a two week break. PM me for my e-mail, please, if you want my help.

Everyone, I know i don't make sense. Hopefully i can fix this avatar mess tomorrow at the library. My computer actually saved one picture as a .jpg but then the file was too big. Can't seem to get it to save anything else like that. Sigh

Make sure you are not only saving to the correct pixel size, but also at the correct resolution. Some forum software will kick out anything that is not at 100 resolution. (Not sure if that's true here, but it is on my forum.)

Resolution, or do you mean dimension? ie, 100 pixels by 100 pixels - that's a measurement of size, not resolution. Resolution is used to describe the level of detail in the image.

This forum software is capable of rejecting images based on size, but not based on resolution.

To let everybody in, if you're having a problem making an avatar, there's a gallery at www.castleparadox.com . They've got a lot of things there if you want to check it out. I just became a member, went into the avatar gallery and saved a few to my computer. Enjoy.

Yes, I mean resolution. Some editing software defaults to 76 res, which some forums do not like. As I said, I'm not sure about this forum, but if you have everything else correct (pixels and kbytes) but still can't upload, then it doesn't hurt to make sure the res is correct and try again.

I've never seen anyone get quite so excited about getting their avatar to work. Though yours is pretty cute.

(I suppose I ought to go find one for myself - though I can't top JCP for traumitization factor...it don't get scarier than that clown.)

If you only knew how many i had to test to find one that fit all the specs required *silently thanks the person on LPU* Thanks Karissa. And yes JCP's is very scary.

In your signature block, use code like this:

Remember that many sites do not appreciate you using their bandwidth to display pictures hosted by them, so ensure that your sig is in an appropriate location on the internet.
