View Full Version : A Shop/Item Idea

Don't mind me, but this has been reeling in my head for a while now. I don't know how it would work exactly, but...Anyway...
What if we had a type of gift shop where items made out of gold and gems were made and given to people? Like, you'd pay X amount of gold and give X amount of gems for whatever you wanted them to make, maybe a ring, bracelet, necklace, tiara, whatever...And it would be a gift to another player. Maybe they're getting 'married', maybe they're a good friend. Maybe they're your loved one, who knows.
But the smith/jeweler there would take what you give, make your item, and send it to the specified player in the mail, telling who it's from, what it's for(optional, like a text field that for purpose, if any), and such. Now, these items could have no status affect, or they could give you a buff everyday, like your steed does, that eventually wears away until the next day.
Just an idea...Any thoughts?

Interesting idea. Would there be any modifiers on these items? Or are they purely aesthetic? Perhaps some added charm for the wearer?

Most aesthetic, yes. But perhaps a temp buff would be added, like, off the top of my head, 'Protection of a Loved One', since a loved one gave it to you, or something...It would probably be good in the charm department. If the relationship feature were ever added, it would be a good source of flirting..but there is no relationship feature so..No worries there, right?
It would be another way, also, of getting rid of all the unwanted money people have before a DK. Instead of making people mad with bounties, make people happy with gifts!
The rest would really be up to the admins.

That's an excellent idea which i hope will be implemented one day

'Twould also start using up the stockpiles of gems that we have... sounds like an excellent idea - presumeably the bonus and type of item would be determined by how much gold/gems ye spent on it...
Mitsuko

Yes, it would depend on the item. Like, oh, a ring would cost less than a necklace, but a necklace gives you better buffs, or whatever bonus is given.

It would probably be best to keep the buff, if any, to +1 or 2 charm rather than add yet another protection buff. If you want a protection buff, marry Violet or Seth.
Also, what if more than one person sends a gift to a single person. I can see this being abusable. If 5 people send a gift to one person, that's +5 charm or more right there.
Just my 2 gp.

What if one of each type of item, and then any items after had no real affect, but were really just for show and gifts?
So...
You want a "Buff Shop" based on jewelry.
That sound just like the current stables fuction, just with different text and fields.
But you want to be able to buy the jewelry not for yourself, but to send for others, which would complicate things.
For one thing, you would have to be able to toggle selling back the jewelry - otherwise it could be used to transfer gems/gold. Not a big deal on other servers, but we don't like transfers.
And you'd have to be able to accept/reject the gift - and what happens then?
That's a complicated set of fields, although it could work if you centralize the function in the shop:
Player 1 buys the item for Player 2, and automatic YOM is generated.
Player 2 has to enter the shop to see what is waiting for them, and can accept/reject.
On reject, item is sold back and Player 1 gets a portion of the cost back (or nothing if the option is diabled).
You should probably be able to buy jewelry for yourself as well.

I've thought a lot about implementing a general inventory, along with more roleplay stats (strength, armor class, dexterity, agility). These stats would represent the single largest diversion I've taken from LoRD in any one step.
Now, given the generally short nature of a player's pre-dragon life, the "cataclysm" at the end of this life, and the subsequent disposability of gold, permitting any sort of intra-player transferring of items has proven to be highly abusable, which is why I don't have gold transfers turned on, despite gold transfers coming with a fair amount of restrictions.
In this regard, the trasferability of these items as you recommend is fairly questionable. I won't probably implement a jewlery shop at least until I implement general statistics (which obsolete attack and defense in their current very primitive forms).

O.O I never really thought of it as the same thing as the stables, but...Er...Yeah...

i was thinking that maybe there would be a way to create a random elite weapon which requires gems and gold to make, which also has a level restriction, therefore they cant use it at lv 1, but able to use it 7 and above.
what u guys think...

I see now that this idea is a tad frowned upon. I understand the worries of gold/gem transfer. Forgive me for forgetting such.

The problem isn't so much gem transfer as gold transfer - if ye made the cost be in gems then ye wouldn't have the same problem of the 15th level scumming...
Don't be upset.
But if you remove buffs (in game advantages), and selling back (gold transfers), you do have a little bit of an idea.
A gift shop where all you can do is transfer a unique item and description.
If you make it user customizable, the shop wizard would ask for:
Item:
# of gems:
Cost: # of gems + 200 gold / level
Then you add a line to the bio for Jewelry:
Player 1 gave Player 2 a (Item) with (#) gems.
Turns it into a decorative item only, which would not lead to any abuse.

That way you could have stupidly expensive things (say, 50 gems) which serve no purpose except status. *wonders if you could also give things to clans...*
Either way, it would lead to more player interaction in a good way.

That's a very good point. Purely roleplay options I would rarely disagree with. On that level, I think this is actually a very good idea. On the "wish I had all the time in the world" level, I don't know how long until I will be able to do this :(.

Yes, that's what I meant. I never intended them to be sellable and the buffs were a last second thought. It was more of a thing for players to show affection and/or frienship to their player-friends.[/quote]

you will find a gift shop at the sourceforge site under the patches section, many of these features are add-ins to the program. And a Server admin can add them in. The lotgd.net sight is running only the basic system as they are the developers of this game.
for server admins go to

I like the idea of decreative items with no modifiers. Maybe allowing each user to have 1 or 2 of these as gives maybe even rewards from contests

That would be rather good, especially if you can't buy them for yourself, but only for others... lend a bit more to the extravagant roleplaying that goes on in the Garden...
(G: Oh farmie, I would marry you, but you cannot afford a ring! B: Fear not, once i have slain the Dragon, I will have all the gems I need! G: Oh my saviour *sob* etc. ad infinitum)

Hammer, the roleplaying is VERY thick on Central. ;-) Even our troll stews don't match up. :-)

Please don't do that.
Start a new project and call it UsurperPHP or something, but don't ruin LoGD with Usurper game play (I mean, I love Usurper and all, but I run LoGD because it is fairly true to LORD).

»can't help but crack up« Maybe the next suggestion should be a Lover's Lane to clean out the garden?

Just tossing out another idea for using up excess gold...
How about a "Dark Magician's Shoppe"?
He will only sell one service per game day.
His services are expensive, and in some cases, unique.
2500 GP: you gain one extra forest fight for that game day. (similar to Cedrick's ale, but without the side effects.) You can buy multiples of this up to 1/2 your level...
1000 GP: you are transported to the Dark Horse Tavern. (useful if you have an exotic mount.)
5000 GP: you are transported to Stonehenge. (enter at your own risk!)
20,000 GP: you gain an extra PvP fight for that day. (Not always useful, there may not be any targets in range...)
10,000 GP: Sorcerer's protection. (Similar to Lover's protection, but only 40 rounds...)
15,000 GP: Fist of Fury! (Similar to protection, but it affects Attack, rather than defense...)
Any other ideas?
Vladimir.

Sounds like it'd fit in the Gypsy's Tent, but there could be objections to some of the bonuses... (although none from this corner).
I meself would like to be able to curse other players though ;)
