Here's another question for yonder people to mull over:
What is your favorite race to play, be it a race from LotGD, D&D, Star Wars, etc?
I've always liked to play humans whenever I decide to sally forth from the realms of reality, mainly because of the fact that I can relate best to them. I've played several different races in my AD&D and MUSH game days, but I find myself always going back to humans.

Elves. Pretty much if elves are available as a race, that's what I play.

Elves, usually in major magic or major swordsmanship. I love swords and I love magic...^.^ It's good if I can find a magic swordsman thing.

Either potato sack or one legged races. Wheel barrel races are a little dangerous.

elves are always my first choice and usually a good one , i have played evil ( dark ) if thats the only option i have.
But i do prefer being a good girl. 8)
Elves for sure, i'm always fond of that creature  for every RPG game I have played.

For LotGD I prefer Trolls.... if for no other reason then I find it amusing to rescue the troll princess....

I love playing a elf, (rather half elf-half human) due to their elegance and beauty.

I would like to play as a Necromancer or a Noble Elf.

Human. don't know why, but I just like using it. Not here, though, since I'm always broke and need gold from Dwarfhood.

My racial choice is usually based on the type of character I want to play.
If he's going to be just a "normal" fighter, I usually go with Human. In most RPGs, most of the populace is human, so I like to stick with the status quo.
It always irks me when people try to be as different as possible. Instead of just playing their character uniquely, they need to come with as much artificial uniqueness as possible (oh, my character isn't human, he's the last of his race, which is half-human, half-dragon, half-demigod, and half-merman, whom can switch forms at will, and was gifted with a long sword of ultimate-slaying from the father he never knew because he was orphaned and raised by a family of noble trolls whom were ousted from the rest of the clan because they are noble).
Otherwise, my non-brawler types tend to be elvish.

When my people are different, its usually in their past/family or features. I don't see many more elves with purple hair and bright green eyes...But, not a huge difference, is it?

i generally prefer for my female characters to be elven/fae, whilst my male ones are human or 1/2 elven.
i generally try not to create an improbable history of being the last of the mohicans type of character. sorry, but ye aren't that in real life, so get over it. and yea, i realize this is fantasy, but it seems there are quite a few with that particular proclivity. and where do vampire elves come from?
only recently hast i begun playing roles as a magick user. i tend to prefer playing characters who are more weapons skill based than magick based.

I agree that "last of ones line" kinda sucks for a story line, so when I last played D&D for a while the character I played was a half-high elf half human that was disowned by his family and the only heirloom I got was a indentifiable ring with no powers from my uncle who disagreed with the rest of the family on disowning me. I figured it was a believable story line, since I couldn't see a high elf family accepting a half-elf that often when considering their opinions of their own races beauty and superiority relative to other races...

That's a pretty good storyline, Elric.
Unforunately, Mitsuko of Central server has a slightly "last of" stories...She was with an elven trading party and they were attacked, but since Mitsuko was a child, they deemed her 'not worthy' of being killed..*shrugs* My bio even says that it's not a very realistic history...

Not to say anything on whether or not it is good, but the sort of unbelievable story lines you see doesn't seem unreasonable to me. You're roleplaying, and as such, you generally will have some extravagent history that explains why you're adventuring in the world. It is often more interesting than being a run-of-the-mill person. Admitedly, though, you see the same general story being reused by many different people, but they all think they came up with it on their own, because they likely did. It's just an obvious idea, if not sometimes ridiculous.
