So there I was. Sleeping in the inn, and some sneaky warrior comes in and whacks me, drool on my pillow and everything.
I was informed that they received 300 gold in bounty for rubbing me out. So, aside from the fact that I was proud that my death was worth 300 coins, what does this mean?
Is there someone out there who would give up their hard-earned gold to see poor little old me dead? If so, I'm flattered.
So, can someone be so kind as to point me to some info on this bounty business? I could not find it in the FAQ.
Thank ya.
Bobbo the Bounty-ful.

This doesn't really give away any "secrets", so I'll fill you in.
Its doubtful that someone had it out for you, and dropped cash just to see you die.
Chances are either:
1) Someone decided you were the one to attack for whatever reason, sent a message to a friend of theirs who is higher level and has spare cash to set a bounty on you, and then killed you for it, or
2) Someone had some cash to throw away, and you were (one of) the random winner of a bounty.
It is entirely possible that someone did put money up so that someone would kill you, but that only happens if you do something to that person (like killing them first).
As far as a bounty "faq", well, you can set a bounty on another player, and whoever kills that player (not counting yourself) gets the money when they do. Dag takes an extra 10% for his fee. Not sure what the minimum is, but there's a maximum of 400 gold per target level. The target also has to be at least level 4 (or is it 5?).

Much obliged for the information. Most illuminating.

Just to clarify for Voratus:
The target must be level 5 (at least thats the setting on both Central and DragonCat).

Just to overly-clarify and make sure to kill the issue.
We had it set at level 3 (we being Central), but people were placing bounties, Dragon Killing, and then killing the poor sap, thus trasferring gold over DK, something we have long since fought against.
So we set it up to level 5, and Kendaer took the same idea. And made it a big big BIG no-no (if not code-impossible, I dun remember now) to collect your own set bounties.

claiming your own bounties is prevented in the code.
btw, you don't happen to be the same Bobbo I knew on battle.net?

I do so love having my own technical ineptitude shown to all and sundry. Heh.
Hi, I'm MightyE's task mistress - I mantain all new additions, suggestions, changes and bugs as they apply to Central, and thus to SourceForge, and I have no code knowledge. If you want a goodie, let me know; if you want to know how the goodie works, go bug MightyE or Kendaer.
