instead of :
Squire BloodDragon has been slain in the forest by Archmage"Just wait for my revenge, Archmage. It will be swift!" Squire BloodDragon declares.
why not make up your own "last words" in your prefrences such as
Squire BloodDragonhas been slain in the forest by Archmage"I hope Ramius remebered to get the Good Ale this time Squire BloodDragon declares.

Aren't there several different "deth messages" that it rotates through? It might be quite a job to give each player one or more custom messages - seems more like it should be a donation points reward...

The problem would be that the Moderators would spend half their time cleaning up the death messages in the news if you could do that. However, I could see it being a nice perk for Donator points, if it could be coded.

The coding would be easy enough, but Sneak is quite right about keeping the Mods busy.

Couldn't the overzealous chat filter be turned on these messages, so as to make it a little easier? Or perhaps have the filter scan it once it is in preferences, and refuse to use anything that triggers the filter, accidentally or not?

The filter only works on single words; a mildly imaginative person could very easily use acceptable words to generate some rather nasty messages.

well ther are people who try to get around the fiter
example : pizza is affected by the filter but p-i-z-z-a isnt affect by the filter
If done, it would probably be subject to moderator review, just like the bios.
There are special codes that are necessary to get the proper names and pronouns, but that shouldn't be too hard - it does make it a bit more complex to code, so some time would need to be cleared before it moves off the "to do" list - if MightyE puts it on the list in the first place.

^.^ That'd be so sweet(awesome sweet, not sugar)! I'd probably change mine every month! Every other month is a serious one, and the others are weird ones. From "I shall have my revenge!" to "SAVE THE LLAMAS!" Mwha ha ha ha! *coughs and goes back to innocent Mitsuko*...

Also, one of the last words line reveals the weapon that the attacker was using. By watching the news, one could take an educated guess at the player's attack skill. I always thought that was a clever feature, and I'd hate to see it disappear in favour of custom lines. Maybe an additional comment, just like bio's. I'm sure bio's aren't systematically watched by moderators as well? A filter would do..
It would be neat to have more 'hint' last words in the news though. For example, what the attacker was wearing, or his hitpoints.

Actually, we do occasionally look over Bios.... and sometimes we have to block them. If there was a custom line it would have to be moderated.

why not make up your own "last words"
Personally, I would rather be able to make up the taunt after killing a foe in PVP. I think that it would really spice up the PVP if you could throw some salt in the wound by taunting your victim after you've slain them. Perhaps this could even be added to the YOM they get as notification
Although, I know this would be abused, and would require moderation, as (hopefully) it would get personal.

The problem is that it *would* be abused and it *would* get personal and thus it *would* cause more problems for the staff and for players.. it will not happen. Sorry.

Too cheap to pay a mere 100 gold for that info? :P
