Sorry Ventyatuima...the same rules about game secrets we enforce in Central apply here as well. No need to ruin the surprise for those that haven't tried yet!

I like them, though I can see how they would benefit some players a lot more than others. Personally, I use them when I have few other options to win in battle... ;)

I think they're great!
I do think it could be tweaked a bit more, as they appear to have more benefit the lower your level, so I would respectfully suggest a slight modification so they work more like how being an elf or troll is coded.
That is to say, you get one blue candle levels 1-5, two at levels 6-10, and three at levels 11-15. If the number of blue candles is hard-coded for all levels, for example 5, then my suggestion would be that each candle would accrue the results in proportion to your level, perhaps 4 at 1-5, 5 at 6-10 and 6 at 11-15.

they could add a little stretch in it but it's not really much more beneficial for lower levels, the factor between experience for PvP and the experience and gold for forest fights is same at all levels

I like them. They are really beneficial for lower level characters whose outcomes in battle aren't as predictable.

i've never had a candle give more then a pvp did....
but pvp's are never as dependable...
i do know that if i tended to not die so much in pvp, i wouldn't touch the candles... but as it is...
i'm afraid i'll be using atleast 2 if not 3 of the candles every day...
(does that argue to nerf them further?)

I like the whole Heidi's Place module and I do occasionally use the Blue candles. I would propose a further benefit for those who burn 3 candles - immunity from what they have sacrificed by doing so. :)

too strong...
bounties would loose 'value' if this occured...
but maybe a seccond buff, to match the bodyguard, but blunt the attackers weapon instead "good will"

I don't know - it seems to me that sacrificing all your PvPs should earn you immunity from attack, since you can't attack anybody else - that's a pretty big trade-off, especially for a high-DK player who gets most of their XP from PvP.
I know the Admins have been consistently resistant to any type of PvP immunity option though, and PvP is a core part of the game, so I doubt this will ever come to pass. Even if it did you wouldn't see me using it - I like PvP too much.
Many people choose not to PvP.
That is their choice, and this mod allows them to benefit from it. That benefit cannot be too generous, however, and choosing not to attack people in PvP should not also be a choice to not be attacked.
There are also logistic problems - would someone be immune to PvP for one day? for one logout? These are questions that should not even be entertained as the immunity from pvp in this manner is not on the table.
We need people to be in the PvP system as targets for the system to work, and there is no reason for anyone to be removed as a potential target just because they made the decision to not target anyone themselves.

until next newday, a buff against the attacker, half as effective as the bodyguard, but on the attack rather then defence...
nha, it would never catch on

If high DK REALLY make a huge sacrifice by burning candles instead of using PvPs, why not give them a little more benefit than the usual one? An extra buff for forest fights, a little extra XP, something like that.

If we were entertaining this question... I'd say for one logout. And you could only do it once every 10 game days or 1 DK cycle, whichever came first.
But I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of players would not opt out of PvP even if they could. I know I wouldn't. The lovely Elessa is definitely a rare exception to that rule!

Do you think so? I was opting out of PvP at #10 on the Hall of Fame, and I know that Mr Number One does the same.
It has nothing to do with being a peaceful person. I simply found that there were virtually no targets worth my while that I could beat. Booger is the same. We get more XP from the forest fights.
In creating Heidi I was hoping that *LOW* DK players would do it, and I never expected that Gods would find it worthwhile. The idea was, we had players all complaining about not enough targets - so I had hoped, that if those people decided to burn the blue rather than killing three more players, there would be more targets for those players who decided to keep killing. It worked. The complaints about not enough targets fell to zero.
I can categorically state I will never support a buff or immunity for players electing not to PvP - it defeats the purpose both of Heidi and a major part of the game. JCP and I have differences over her blue reward - he thinks it's too high and I think it's too low - but for the moment I have no plans to change her. In future, however, who knows, because there are many many things a witch could bring to the game.
i almost always burn the blue candles on dragoncat. mostly because of the dk banding that has been implemented. (dk banding is a breakdown of players based on dk. you can't PVP anyone outside of your dk band.) i have found that a lack of viable targets means more trips to heidi. i am thankful to have that option as otherwise i would be wasting those potential chances to gain experience.

Well, I sure like the chance to burn the blue! On the other hand, pvp gives you - if you don't go for lower level farmboys or -girls - about 5-12 times the experience you gain with a forest fight. The usual <NUMBER> was much better than the<NUMBER> we have now ...
Sorry, the number of fights you get per candle is a game secret. -Acemaster

For some people PvP is far more rewarding like the forest fights, the lower players like me, it isnt 5-12 times better but I think its better but that just suits my strategy
Forest fights suits your strategy, you and Elsessa and Booger and others using that strategy propably have low hitpoints and high attack and defence

I don't know about you, Saucy, but when I PvP a high-DK player two levels above me and win, the XP I gain is often more than for all my FFs that day combined - sometimes several times more, in fact. Once it was over 9000!

I like getting all my XP from forest fights. Since I'm already fairly low lever, not getting a huge bump in XP from killing other people (and boy did I hate getting killed constantly as a farmie) allows to to amass large sums of wealth and gems. As this is my personal strategy, I like Heidi's. Only drawback for Heidie's, especially now that we get extra forest fights for donating to the server over the monthly needs, is that it makes you mount a little less useful. Just means you have to adjust your strategy a little bit.
I don't think you should have any changes to the killing system. I don't think you should grant immunity to someone who chose not to kill anyone else. If that happened, losing experience to slow my march through the levels wouldn't happen when i sleep in the fields. I need that cut in XP from sleeping in the fields.

It all depends on how your character is 'fitted.'
Saucy and Booger have developed a very efficient character for leveling. Some other players strictly go for increasing strength in PvP. I wish I knew their secret.

I have never PvPed a day in my LotGD life - and I only have 21 DKs. I am eternally grateful to Saucy for giving those of us like Elessa who do not with to kill our fellow players an option. I still have fun, and I still manage to keep up - somewhat - with my fellow clanmate who not only PvPs but also is a Storm Giant. I will never be in the Hall of Fame, and I will never beat any records for quick dragon kills - but I have fun, enjoy my play time, and spread a little Entropy throughout the Realm - and that's good enough for me.
HUZZAH to ye Saucy, /bow to my heroine Elessa and thanks to all the mods and admins who kepe the game running for us to enjoy.

I love them. Being a mere 2DK'er, generally there are not PvP targets with a chance I might win the battle, so this is a very nice way to spend the otherwise useless PvP fights. Besides, fighting in the forest allows me collect also gold and gems, something that PvP wouldn't give me.

I use the blue candle until I have max equipment, then PVP, so I appreciate it very much, since I usually don't max until ~Level 9. (I was a Felyne, we'll see how it goes as Elf.) And as for gold in PVP, I always PVP at least one farmie per day, when PVPing. So many use full gold pouches for pillows! :D

I have 30 now, and I get 6-7 per candle.
Before I had 16 and got 5-6 per candle.
Doubling my forest fights, I thought, would have yeilded higher returns.
Id like to see a change here; more returns per DK point in FF.
YurianStonebow

Hmm, didn't know it was a percentage based on number of turns for the game day. Are we talking normal turns gained/reset at the start of the day, or also affected by any gained from Audrey and or Sauce?
Furion
06-10-2005, 11:00 PM
When Elessa talked about it before, she said it was based on initial forest fights, which means that it's a percentage of the (regular 10 + spirits + men race bonus + donator bar + DK FF's). And the final word is?

It already does, and Furion is correct. Elessa was right.
But it is not a straight multiplier. I give you X fights just because, and the rest of them are based on your turns at new day, but also influenced by your dragon kills. What that means is that the more dragon kills you have, the less benefit you get *per dragon kill*. It will still continue to give MORE benefit than it did, as you progress. Only the amount added decreases over time.
Did that make sense? You will keep getting more and more as you progress, but it won't double just because you doubled your dragon kills or doubled your new day fights.

AND Booger has just pointed out that I wasn't paying attention.
The donation bar does not affect Heidi. The calculation is done before that kicks in. Also, the race bonus is not part of that.
So it's your base of 10 + your spirits for that day + any DP you spent on FF.
