View Full Version : Mount Availability
So, how's the new mount availability code working out?
Please provide feedback on this system where a random element was added to which mounts are available each day.

I think it's incredibly cool.
I'm also not biased in any way.
Riiiiight.
Anyone else with feedback on Deimos's module?
i was bummed at first because i had enough to get the mount i wanted and the mount was unavailable. then i encountered lonestrider ....
had to save up again and hope it was there.
i think it adds to the game. stables can't just house potential mounts for all the players. i wonder if you might also consider only having a few of each days mounts to sell. that might make it a bit too rough for some though.... just a thought.

I have that problem now too muad, altought I like it, there are now much more creatures
i think i had to wait through two dk's and a few game days before i found the mount i wanted (and had enough to get it). it was pretty frustrating but in the end the wait was well worth it.

I like the script because of the added reality. It's like buying a new car, sometimes you have to search long and hard for the right one. Just ask Elessa :) But my question is, is where do you store a bird 30 paces wide in the middle of Degolburg? Other than that good job. Props to Deimos.

The only bad thing about it is that you can't see the prices for other mounts. You could save up for 1 mount and buy it, and then the next day see another mount that you would have gotten instead for the same price. This almost happened to me, I was saving up for a Wyvern (I have a shadhahvar now) and then later I saw the Valkyrie and wanted that instead, but I would have kept on saving up for the Wyvern If I hadn't seen it.

I dunno... it takes all the fun out of it.
Are Nightmares ever going to be avaliable agian. Or is it just that my timeing is bad?

Your timing is bad... I think.

The new system means we no longer have to activate the Nightmare by hand when we want to sell it. It's always in the system now - it just has a small chance of ever showing up.

Nightmare is limited edition. That means that it's currently unavailable. The Hellhound is active but is very rare... you might see that one if you are lucky, and it packs quite a punch.
Interestingly, players seem to all buy the lower mounts rather than the lower familiars. I find that really funny, because when I saw that I intentionally created and edited the familiars, and made them better value... and the pony, stallion etc are still more popular! hehe... a hot tip if you are less than about 10DKs.

Problem is, when reading descriptions of mounts, you more or less understand what they'll do for you, whilst it's not always the case with familiars. Secod, familiars cost gems AND money, mounts only gems, so if you're broke because you need the money to buy better weapons and armour, you can always get a mount.
I'm currently trying to buy the winged cat, but when I've got the money, I haven't the right amount of gems and vice versa. Reaaaally frutrating at times. :D
Ah, and the system is really good, forces you to be very careful about what you buy, and explore both stables before choosing.

I think the limited mount availability is an excellent idea. I was so much more excited when my alt actually bought his gryphon after looking for it.
As a side note, I wish it would show up in your bio when you defeat Lonestrider, defending all of your gems as you wait for a new mount.

The rabbit was definately better than it sounded! :D But then I bought a Winged Cat and then I bought a Shadhahvar and now I'm saving up for a Valkyrie, then Ill get a Wyvern and (starts reading long list of mounts he will get)

It's better, in my own humble opinion, to stick with one mount you like and save up for an insanely good one. The war horse, which is an excellent mount, lasted me until my wyvern, and I got my peryton 1 dk after (i probably shouldnt have wasted my gems on the wyvern).

And like most of the other mounts, it's due to WHEN you bought it and WHAT your existing stats were.
Booger and I use the Ettile, but if McD used it he would probably find it useless, and if you used it, it would probably kill you. So like everything else, there is more than one "best" when it comes to the mounts.
Just to add my 2 cents...
It also depends on your playing style. Different mounts enhance different stats and styles, and we try to present a wide variety.
Like the mi'raj for example - it gets more powerful the more damage you take. This is a dangerous mount to max out, but it is an excellent strategy for some characters and a terrible strategy for others.

Yep, it's all up to trying.

I recommed the cheetah, you might find it useful

You know, I've never tried a familiar - maybe I'll try one with an alt character...
Of the mounts, I've had the pony, cow, stallion, warhorse, elephant, wyvern, wild wyvern and gryphon. Can't say anything bad about any of them, but my favorites were the warhorse, the wild wyvern and the gryphon.

I had a nightmare: It was really cool for going from place to place, and really cheap to feed... and by dying all the time to get soulpoints I managed to level slowly and gain a lot of money and gems. But, if you goal is not to be on the 1st page of the hat list, maybe it's not for you. Now I bought a Wyvern, and am probably no longer on the gems list either, but it's okay. becuase Lonestrider shouldn't be taking so many gems from me all the time. Lonestrider is such a meanie, he steals gems from the rich, but he's too cheap to give them to the poor
I like this new system of having the mounts available randomly, but all the time. Before, I had a mini-dragon and then the mounts were frozen. I collected so many gems in that time it was rediculous, and still I was stuck with the mini-dragon. This system lets me try out all the different mounts, which is totally cool with me. Variety is the spice of life afterall.

I second this recommendation. Aren't the Stables the "Ye Olde" equivalent to a Car Dealership? If so, when I walk into a dealer, they will have certain models of cars on the lot but other models will be unavailable. Yet, for the unavailable cars, the dealer will still be able to tell you the features and price of the unavailable models.
Showing unavailable mounts and familiars would not be a discouragement to exploring the game. Rather, it would help in goal-setting and motivation for players. Like wanting to save up for that Mineral Gray mustang!

Having just bought a car, you're not quite correct.
The emphasis is on selling the available stock - making a sale "today", not "eventually".
If you want to see what other types of things are sometimes available, check every day.
While we COULD let you see the unavailable mounts, that would really defeat one benefit of the module, namely letting us have a large selection of mounts without having a large list to go through.

i sliped the thought in elsewhere,
but it could be just like another game secret,
and listed in a game secret
instead of out in the open
everything for a price, eh?
do you mean something along the lines of purchasing a Kelly Blue Book for mounts?

Now I really like this idea. Similar to asking about your enemies.
Maybe pay someone to tell you about a mount or familiar.
Like getting a house, boat, ring, car or other expensive tangible investment appraised. Any of these can and should be independently appraised prior to purchase.
