View Full Version : FEATURE FEEDBACK: Felynes
Okay, comment on Felynes here.
Good idea? Are you noticing a difference in gold/gem amounts as promised? Are the stats worth it? Etc.

I don't really notice a differerence on gold while I was a dwarf before, maybe the felyne is a bit to good, I think removing the defence bonus or decreasing the gold you get from the forest will help to balance

I like the new felyne. In three days of playing one I appear to be running about 25% less gold. I still haven't played enough to really get a feel for average increase in gems . 7 on day one, 3 on day 2 and 1 on day three. Since felines get less gold, I think maybe the whiskey sours are a little bit pricey. Also, I've been down the back alley 3 times for only 1 gold piece. Thats a little bit low gain for the risk of death. One gem was worth it but not the one gold. Overall, kudos for an excellent new race. :D

I'm seeing more 0 gold fights than I was before, but I'm generally still up moneywise at the end of a day having bought all the things I would normally buy.
I've got two gems from one fight once so far.
Overall, I think it's balanced, but I have yet to play a Felyne through a DK and from first level.

I've been using the Felyne feature on the Dragoncat server for some time now. It helped me immensely when I was saving gems for my Lady Phoenix (the most expensive mount regularly available on the Dragoncat server). I didn't find the decrease in gold to be a problem, but that was probably because my clan on Dragoncat donates gold to each other in order to max weapon and armor quickly (a feature that is disabled on the Central server). Overall, I like the option to be a Felyne because it adds an option to the game that wasn't there when I began as a Farmgirl, it gave me the ability to gain gems quickly, and it's pretty cool to think of myself as a "felyne" (I'm a cat person). When you begin to accumulate so many gems, Lonestrider becomes a problem, so it becomes necessary to develop new strategies to deal with him, and in my opinion, a mod that forces you to explore the game further can only be a good thing.

i think this is a really great specias and its good you limited to people with 1 dk with this new specias i now have 102 gems plus my 27 from my mount and im number 46 in the gems hall of fame lonestrider has come after me a lot though and lonestrider balances it out so its a good specias

It might interest you all to know that I haven't had a chance to BE a cat person on Central yet ;)
The concept was JCP's. All his idea, which is funny, because I'm also cat person in a huge way. But all I did was code his request... JCP was the mastermind.

I've been on felyne for the last couple of Dks now, and can't say I've really noticed a jump in the number of gems I've gained, but I have noticed the lack of gold - my last DK occurred with me only having level 11 weapons and armous, when I'm usually maxed out by the time I reach level 13 or so. I'll keep using the felyne for another couple of DKs to see if I really notice an increase in gems, otherwise it's probably back to being a troll for me.

I played one DK cycle as a Felyne and I can honestly say that I didn't get any more gems than I usually do as a human (I keep count). I seemed to have enough gold for equipment, but that's probably because as a High-DK character I get a lot of extra turns from flawless fights. I'm currently playing an alt character as a Felyne to see what happens.
I REALLY like the Storm Giant though - especially with a Gryphon! :D

Yes, there is a special message when you get a gem due to the felyne bonus.
Hopefully you're getting this message.

The message is there
Great. Can people using felynes please pm me or post how often they are seeing this message?
How often in terms of creature kills: 1 out of 100, or 4% or something like that.
I know what the percentage is set at, and I want to make sure everything is working properly.
(This racial bonus is a little harder to verify than the others.)

I've only noticed about three or four so far, and that's through 2 DKs as a felyne. Given that I average 2 levels per day, and about 20 combat turns per day (as opposed to specials etc), I'd say I'm getting them at about 1% or so. As I posted above, I certainly don't seem to be getting many more than usual, anyway. I'll try to keep better track over the next few days and see what I get.

DOn't know if it's becuase I'm a felyne, or becuase I have finally got enough DK's under my belt, but I am getting a lot of flawless fights. I have definately seen an increase in my gems, I'm probably getting at least 3 per day. Gold is down... but then Sussie was a Dwarf forever. In the long run though, that will probably only hamper my hat size, and nothing else.
Also I don't know if it's beucase I'm a felyne or not... but Crazy Audrey has sure increased her prices.

I think JCP wanted to know how many of those gems were accompanied by the "Felyne senses" message - those are the extra gems that being a Felyne gets you.

I know. I got 8 from the "Felyne Senses"... and one regular gem, but that doesn't matter. 8 out of 42 seems like a rediculously high amount to me... but that's what happened.

03-13-2005, 08:33 AM
73 fights and 2 extra gems through the Felyne senses, really diappointed actually because the amount of gold I've lost through being this race far outweighs the benefit of merely 2 GEMS.
The concept is great though JCP and jopefully it'll end up being tweaked a bit more to make the gem percentage slightly higher at the expense of, say the extra defence?
Loving it all the same though! :?

I'm gonna guess about 5%...
The loss of gold is very significant, at one point I was level 9 with level 5 weapon and level 6 armor.
Nick the Lemming
03-13-2005, 04:01 PM
My last DK was with level 7 weapon and armour. Having said that, I did lose 9000 gold at the dice game...
Anyway...today's scores were much better - 65 FFs and 4 felyne gems.

Nick the Lemming
03-14-2005, 01:20 PM
And today: 62 FFs, 3 Felyne gems, 1 non-Felyne gem, and quite a bit of cash - more than I used to usually get as a troll, in fact.

As recent squire, I found the Felyne pretty useful. It is the frst time I level up from level one to three in a single day, and for now, I'm not having many difficulties with lack of money. although it is true one does get less.
About gems, I win many more than usually. I must have been lucky, for I won 8 gems today, two of which were due to Felyne senses.

Latest results - 54 FFs, no felyne gems, 1 non-felyne gem, fair amount of gold. Yeah, not a good day. Plus I ended up being killed by a god I tried to take down (Hey, he'd lost to me when he attacked me a couple of days before...) and then died to the first dead beastie when seeking Ramius' favour...
Today - 92 FFs (2 DKs, 1 with each of my characters), 3 felyne gems, 4 non-felyne gems, money seemed as per troll usual.
Note to any admins - is this info still useful?
I look forward to your updates.

Today (only one character so far) 48 FFs, 2 felyne gems, 1 non-felyne gem. Money seems fairly low, but then I was just level 1-2, so money is sometimes that low anyway even with my troll - money seems highly variable at that level irrespective of race.
Other character - 50 FFs, 3 Felyne gems, 1 non-felyne gem. I was going to say that money was great today, until I realised that I hadn't used any of my DK money yet....but was still pretty good, about average for troll money, maybe even a little better than usual troll money.
Nick the Lemming
03-17-2005, 01:12 AM
And the lastest - 88 FFs (Yay hodgepigs!), 4 felyne gems, and 10 (yes, 10. Thanks Stonehenge) non-felyne gems. I'm so great.
Money was pretty good too compared to usual.
Ok, on average, the felynes are providing the proper amount of gems. Some days are higher/lower than others, but on average.
Now, the question is - is that enough?
Remember, not on a daily basis, but on a long-term basis.

I'd like to see more, and the gold does sometimes hurt me (I had a DK with level 7 weapons and armour because that was all I could afford), but I think coupled with the def bonus, it's pretty much comparable to other races. Maybe an extra 1% gems or so might help though.

OK, my alt playing as a feline at Gladiator level averages 10 FFs per day and a Felyne gem every two or three game days. The most I've gotten is 2. Playing as a human that character averaged more gems and much more gold - he's currently underequipped due to insufficient gold. I don't think I'd play a low-DK char as a Felyne again - the gold decrease impacts game play too negatively.
SaucyWench
03-18-2005, 07:54 AM
I'd actually back Pwyll up here. I am seeing PILES of Felyne gems... my estimate is about 10 in a game day, but remember I get ~150 fights. The gold does impact a fair bit. I can deal with it as a God, but it would be hard lower down. I will stay as a Felyne I think though. The gems are great.
Ok, but can I ask the question another way?
If a player wants gems, is the race worth it?
Ignore everything else - assume they do not want to focus on speed or gold oranything else other than getting the extra gems they need for whatever reason.
Do the felynes offer "enough" extra gems to make it worthwhile?
God Valxirion
03-18-2005, 10:14 AM
yes they certainly are, and even though I'm also focussing on speed I still find it really worthwhile
Pwyll
03-18-2005, 10:24 AM
Below God level - or if you have a lot of extra forest fights for another reason - I'd have to say that no, it's not enough. Only someone who is totally focused on gems to the exclusion of all other game goals is going to ignore the disadvantages caused by the lack of gold.
My Gladiator-level character can't even count on getting one gem per game day, Felyne-related or not.
Nick the Lemming
03-18-2005, 10:30 AM
I'd agree with Pwyll - even as an Archtitan, I don't think it's a particularly great way to pick up gems - I'm not getting that many more than I would as another race to make up for what I'm losing elsewhere. Then again, I tend to just play trolls usually, not really for the bonus but because Trolls are fun to play, and I'll probably stick with one of my characters being a felyne just because they're fairly cool.
Today - 56 FFs, 2 felyne gems.

Okay, I've now done one DK cycle as a felyne. I have *no* idea why I decided to continue as one, though - maybe the lure of glittering gems is stronger for some people :)
Countless forest fights, countless gems, countless perma-hitpoints. There were tons of bad luck days where I definitely wasn't making much profit, that's true. The lack of money only started to really hurt me after level 12 or so and lv 13-15 were pure pain because I tend to stick to appropriately leveled gear and my weapon was around 13 for the last few levels...
I think it's a fun race, definitely nicely challenging and gem bonus is definitely nice. Plus I love the avatar pic. :)

I have played the felyne for about 4 dk's now.
I was a bit disappointed with the felyne gems at first, but then I noticed when JCP upped the frequency of felyne gems.
I would say that the felyne gems gained now are well worth the lack of gold. Even though I am only able to afford low-level equipment, I am progressing at a rate *similar* to the rate I used to enjoy as a dwarf.
Some days I actually end up negative on the day (and no purchases are made at all) for gold due to the healings I require from my low-level equipment.
But then some days I find upwards of 5 felyne gems.

Personnally, I've noticed on the contrary a drop in the amount of gems I get. Even as a felyne, I latelly get no more than one or two per game day, which is what I used to get as another race.
Bad luck, I suppose.

I got a ton of gems on my first day or two as a Felyne. Something on the order of like 15 gems for two days. Of course, that's overall gems, not race specific gems. I estimate that I got maybe 20 gems my first DK through as a dwarf, and like 6 of those 20 gems were from not finding the dragon except on the fourth town. Then again, my first day was a little biased since I had a ton of flawless fights from my 5 defense at level 1. (Sorry Game Secret- BD)
When you consider that the gems (and resulting permanent HP) are permanent, I think Felynes are overpowered, really. The +2 (and now +3 at level 5) defense bonus seems to more than make up for the slower equipment progression. The gems just seem to be a huge extra bonus.
I've only made one DK so far, I have 30 gems, and a camel (6 gems worth). I'm currently level 5. I'd dare say Felynes can expect to make twice as many gems as other races. Imagine an extra 15 hp every DK for being a Felyne, Also Game Secret- BD

I didn't like them, but that doesn't mean I don't think they were a good idea.

After almost hitting level 15 with a Felyne, I can say that it really doesn't suit my playstyle... I'm forever spending gold on healing, which slows me getting better weapons/armor, and ends up a vicious cycle. I'm going to do a few days of slumming, in the hopes of getting up to a level where I would consider moving up now.
I'm finding that the extra gems I get are used rather quickly at the Inn, as bribing with gold isn't a very good option. So at the end of it all, I'm left with either taking it really slow (which I wasn't planning for this cycle) via slumming/reduced PvP, or losing out on both gems and gold (in the long run) in an effort to rapidly rise in rank.
Next cycle will be taken a lot slower, to see how it goes... But I feel that my usual choice of human is better for my playstyle. :)
