View Full Version : FEATURE FEEDBACK: Storm Giants
Ok, comment on Storm Giants here.
Do you like 'em? Are the stats working out ok?
Are they worth the $20 price?
Do you feel offering a "donator only" race is fair?

I haven't contributed for one. But I think its very fair to give a bonus for those who are willing to contribute that much money.

just a small note. The racial buff is below the one for my mount. As opposed to below it in order as the elf and troll usually are
I've made the nessarsary donation to aquire Storm Giant status and It's worth every penny. I don't know if others think its unbalanced but I have still had to chat to Ramius about getting back to life.

ive wondered what the storm gaint is but maybe it should change a bit maybe if you help enough in game like if you help the mods a lot and report all bugs youve found since some of us are kids who arent allowed to give money

Well, the Storm Giant can be gotten through lots of referrals and bug-findings. It's 2000 lodge points.

Actually, it says "the equivalent of $20," which is 2000 lodge points.

Same here. I'm not allowed to donate money. But i'm not leaving. Striving for a Felyne is good enough for me.

Shouldn't us coders get something for creating them?

We do understand that being a kid has its limitations, and some people have other reasons that they can't donate even though they would like to. And we do appreciate what you're saying, and yes, it might seem a little unfair for you.
However - and I am not trying to be nasty - we do ask you to look at the bigger picture. We cannot run the server without money, and there have been times where we didn't know how we would pay for the month, and the begging was getting to be tiresome. We had to think of ways to try to increase the donations, and it came down to rewarding the people who have kept the game free for YOU to play. I don't think any of us would think that the donators don't deserve a reward.
Perhaps, if people can look at these features as a thank you gift to the people who let us play... instead of something we cannot have for free... it is easier to accept? =)

Right :)
We did that intentionally, rewarding everyone when the server costs are met, not just the donators. It was done so that people did not feel excluded, and it is nice to hear that players do appreciate it. Thanks!

The Giant rocks this world (literally) and is worth it and then some. The idea of a twenty foot tall Moderator has its appeal..and so far it's been a blast
jcp and team thank you, it's OUTSTANDING. :D
Thank you Sichae. -- Saucy
(Of course, that's understating it..I could have been a lot boulder... :P :P )

I think it is fair donators should have a bonus race, as long as it is not too unballanced in PvP (I mean that being a giant shouldn't make you win more often).
I haven't got them, so I don't know whether this is true, I'm just saying what I think would be unfair. :D
And yes, we really DO appreciate this 10% reward in healing.

Do you like 'em? Are the stats working out ok?After being a Dwarf for many, many moons ....... I am enjoying being big for a while. Stats seem OK for me. I did drop my rock on my foot once ... that smarts!

i've not yet droped my rock on my foot, luckally enough...
but I am managing to get through without the gold from being a dwarf, and the bonus defence reminds me of my elf days. It's good nestalga

Firstly, The Storm Giant is awesome and is especially good when teamed with the Gryphon! (as I think someone else said elsewhere in the forums) I was a Troll for a long time before deciding to donate some more and check out the Giant, and I haven't looked back since! Great job Sichae! :D
Secondly, I think it is absolutely fair that donators only are given access to options or benefits such as these. Especially when you consider that ALL players benefit from SOME players donating, by way of cheaper healing and bonus FF's when monthly costs have been met.

Sorry for the delay, but just bought me a Storm Giant. Yes it is worth the $20. I just put a post elsewhere about how much does someone spend on coffee, lunches, junk, etc. Heck, World of Warcraft is $15 every single month. I feel those who donate DESERVE a little extra.
Thank you for a great addition.

Many people do not have access to PayPal and thus do not donate.

Say, if anyone not owning a credit card and hence, a PayPal account would like to donate they can always send me money....

I keep hearing that there will be a non-Paypal way to donate eventually. What about a PO Box to send personal checks/money orders? Or Western Union? That way those without Credit Cards could donate.

There are significant resource problems with that.
From our point of view, PayPal is very convenient; it involves no more effort than going online, and even the donor points are handled automatically.
Setting up a PO Box, then checking that PO Box, then going to the bank, then dealing with international currency exchange rates, then manually entering donor points - it all gets to be a very time consuming process.
We don't have the resources to do that at the moment. We don't even have the resources to set up a system where someone who does have the time can do it on our behalf. It's not easy to deal with money, especially someone else's. (Please - no volunteers. If we can figure out how to do it, we already have people offer to help out.)
Sure, we'd like there to be a way for us to get as much money as we can from the people who want to but do not have access to the one way we can handle at the moment. But that's the thing - we just can't handle any other way right now.

Yes, money can be a hassle to deal with, as I know from running my band's CD sales. Ah well, maybe those without credit can sweet talk a friend or realtive into doing it for them...

now a check for $20,000 ... *winks*
you have to concider, that the amount of the donation has to be worth the time to get it. Paypal makse almost every donation worthwhile...

I have donated in the past, and I did it through my friend's account.

I don't mind at all that the donators get a bonus race. It gets frustrating when it gives an advantage in Dragon Killing, but that's life. I am not able financially right now to do so, but some day I will be. I appreciate the extras given for all when costs are met.
Hehehehe - my one splurge is Everquest, which is only 12 bucks a month. I had ot choose between cable tv and EQ + DSL. Guess which I chose? Someday when I have a Real Job I shall join the ranks of donators.
Incidentally, do you have to donate 20 bucks each month, or is it a one time thing?
Nightwind

one time donation. Keep hunting for bugs, you might collect enough points to do it that way

Hmm... someone else is paying the server costs, which allows me to play at no cost to me.
Or, they are supporting the people who work to keep the site running.
Either way, they are directly improving my experience.
While I can't speak for the balence of the storm giant, it's existance is a good thing.[/i]
