View Full Version : FEATURE FEEDBACK: Combat Changes
The rules of combat were recently changed for balance issues.
Well, mostly - Slumming remained the same.
Elsewhere the chances of getting the "first strike" dropped a little.
Except in Thrillseeking, where they dropped more - but we slightly increased the gold/experience payoffs to compensate.
And we added Sucide Searching to allow even bigger gold/experience payoffs, but at bigger risks with "MightyElite" creatures.
I'm sure you have opinions, so give'em.

I like having an additional fight option in the forest. When I tried out the suicide option, I found it was a drain on my mount and I spent a lot of gold on healing, but the experience payoff was worth it for my specific level at the time. I'm glad to have more options to augment my strategy as I level up, and I'm interested to see how the changes to likelihood of first strike and thrillseeking will affect my character's stats over a full DK. Will take a while to see that, though.

searching suicidally is good for a suicidal person like me

I like the suicide option. It gives me a way for more experience when I no longer reliably get flawless fights. I use it either when I have a lot of buffs or for the last couple of fights when I don't have to worry about healing.

I've been using the new suicidal option a couple of times each day in combination with my skills, giving me flawless fights with slightly higher cost, but a reward that's worth it

You can still do well in Suicide searching, but it requires using your special abilities?
for my player on central, i use the search suicidally option about the same as belson mentioned. i have found the when i use my special abilities while searching suicidally, the monsters seem to hit harder. it is a drain on the old mount but if you are looking for a few extra experience points to level up it works really well.
i also play on dragoncat and use the search suicidally option most of the time. my player is a bit higher in dk's and with the PVP banding on that site it takes longer to level so the search suicidally option works really well.

I've played suicide a little bit more since my last post. At lower levels, I like Looking for a fight instead of Suiciding because I get a lot of flawless victories. When I get less than 50% flawless I start considering suicide option. However, I've now had a chance to try level 14 suiciding. At level 14, there is a real chance of death with max HP's for me. Especially as I use the 10 round option a lot. I'm still playing with fine tuning but right now I'm going to use suicide for my last couple of fights after my buffs are gone starting about level 5-7 through about level 11-12. Levels 5-10 I'll consider suiciding more often. I'm still working on figuring out the healing/xp trade off. I'm a felyne right now but I think a dwarf could use it a little more often cause they hit the target equipment earlier and have more cash for healing.

Yes. It gives me a reason to actually make sure to use my abilities. It also requires that I NOT use autofight.

I use search suicidally as it speeds levelling...with my a/d and armour strategy, it works for me well.
I get killed now and then...but iuts a good way to still get exp and get some use out of my bufs

did anything get changed in the damage code? Im noticing things are starting to hit for a ton now, not really sure if thats cause my dragon kill level (angel) or because of these changes. I would think though if it was my DK count, I would have noticed the change before as a gradual thing

I save my poison attack for suiciding at the end of the day. It gives me about two extra suicides without healing.

yes, we had combat changes, there's a topic on the forum about it

I'm not aware of any changes to the damage calculations, just the "first strike" chances.
The Suicide searching monsters should have increased damage percentages, but they weren't in the game before.

Searching suicidally is a great feature. It makes the game more realistic and grants the player more options for strategy. The risk/reward is appropriately balanced. Thank you, greatly.
I use it when I reach a level when gold doesn't matter as much anymore and I'm focused on experience.
This may also help those players who don't PVP - giving them a pvp-like challenge and additional experience.
Would the next enhancement be search randomly for those of an upper level?

Then it isn't based on your level so you might have much benefits at some point

nightwind, thank you for the brilliant info...
JPC, I must be having the worst luck even then. Just fought the dragon and it totaly beat me down. double hitting me for 25-30 per go. couldnt stay up even with regen and siphon life going at the same time. then I tried to fight in the graveyard for a rezz and a bat killed me and still had something like 80 life left (I admit I shouldnt have auto fought) I just havent had a run of damage like that before and its been pretty consistant for the past week, taking big hits even fighting normal things.

maybe other things could aid in the dragon fight...
also fighting in the graveyard at level 15 is pretty hard because you're only a bit stronger then the monsters while at level 1 you are much stronger then them, it always was

Ah, I thought I noticed that... :)
I love the suicidal search! With 64 DKs playing as a human or Storm Giant with Thieving Skills and a Gryphon, I can actually get flawless fights when searching suicidally - especially after an ale.
By the way, a tip for our Mystical Arts using friend - try Lightning Aura on the dragon instead of Siphon Life.

I use Earth Fist. It never survives 5 rounds, especially when I down a Mule Daniels. I actually beat the dragon last time with my only buff being Earth Fist and Mule Daniels. No mount, or lover's.

It all depends on your playing style. There was a point when I was using Mystical Arts and Lightning Aura would take the Dragon down in one or two rounds. Now that my strategy has changed to accomodate the extras of being high-DK and having a powerful mount, I find that Thieving Skills work better for me and I've even been getting a flawless DK now and then.
