I'm a bit confused about the old Ferryman and was wondering if anyone else had been punished for winning against him or am I just lucky?

I understand that this subject may not last long O great Administrators but I just need to know.

Oh, it's on Central. We don't make a habit of announcing new random encounters.;)

thanks for the tip jcp now your using greek mythology very nice now all you need is a mount olympus that is only for people that are gods (and because of the new system for people with 100dk or more)(new system gave me deja vu)

Let's just say that the Chris de Burgh song is NOT a good way to handle this guy...

some punctuation might clear this up for you Acemaster

he thinks the ferryman is from greek mythology. he thinks that a mount olympus should be added for gods (100 dk's or more with the new title structure). apparently he has the same title he previously obtained for a sense of deja vu.

not trying to be a jerk, just clearing the confusion.

when i came up with the ferryman idea and presented it to blarg for coding, i really did not have anything in mind. i just thought it would be cool to find a river and have a guy in a boat ferry you across. of course the greek mythology and the Chris de Burgh song came into my head during the development of the module but that was certainly NOT my motivation. i sure hope that players are liking it!

muad, I like the Ferryman module. Between playing on Dragoncat and Central, I've probably encountered him ~10 times, and I don't think I've ever had the same result. It's pretty cool to have so many options and possible results.

So really, this module is mostly muad's fault. Don't shoot the coder! :D

But seriously, it was a fun little project and I thank muad for letting me help implement his idea.

don't shoot him but you can slay him in the fields of qexelcrag! this module would not have been coded if blarg had not been so kind as to do so.

i guess you can just kill us both then! happy slaying!

:laughs softly as she sees this reference

ye know, i do not think the younger set quite understand this reference. tis most appropos though in this instance to make said reference.

nicely done, blarg.

I don't think I'm 'younger set', but the only Chris de Burgh song I could come up with was "Lady in Red". However, checking his website comes up with "Don't Pay the Ferryman", which I'm guessing is the referenced song. I think I was about 12 when "Lady in Red" hit the charts, I don't remember any of the others at all.

:laughs softly

trust me, many of ye are the 'younger set'. i had already graduated highschool, been through college and divorced once when 'don't pay the ferryman' was released.

Although I haven't yet fully played with it (found it once and was dropped off somewhere I'd rather of not been so, then only seem to find him on the new day and too scared to take the risks at the moment...), it would be neat if you did have some gold on the other side, you could possibly encounter him and pay for a trip back...

The de Burgh song I was talking about was indeed "Don't Pay the Ferryman". For those who don't know it, the chorus was:

Don't pay the ferryman,
Don't even fix a price,
Don't pay the ferryman
Until he gets you to the other side.

Yeah, I'm old. In fact, I just discovered that I'm one of the 50 oldest accounts on Central - number 33 to be exact! :)

I am "older" too - but I never heard that song. Hehehe. I do know Lady in Red though. I will have to look this up.

I have met the Ferryman a few times myself - and a different result each time. Great work guys.

My friend Kelt can code - I need to get him to come up with something - or teach me...

We are studying Mythology in English and I just learned about Charon, the man who ferries souls in Hades across the river. I swear by the Styx, though, that this is a very good module and I like the variety of choices.

if you swear by styx and break the swear you are said to be killed instantly

Also, bathing in the Styx was said to make you invulnerable. That's what happened to Achilles - his mother dipped him in the Styx when he was an infant, but she held him by his heel, which thus did not get into the water and became his weak spot - as in the phrase, "Achilles' heel". He was killed during the siege of Troy when a poisoned arrow struck his heel.

yes but if you go in alone you never come out thats why he needed to be dipped if he swam hed never come back
