View Full Version : Tattoo's (SPOILER)

Well, I don't know if this is going to be too much spoiler, and if it is I beg you pardon and close/edit the post, but I have to ask... what are the tattoo's for?

I mean, I know they are for certain creatures at the forest, I own a few of them (today I asked Petra for my sixth one), and there are two that I know for what are they for (Snake and Skull), but for the rest I've done... I didn't feeled anything from them, and I quite can't imagine for what are for (like the hummingbird, as an example).

I know the games go on searching... I've had lots of FFs (ok, I'm not a God yet, just a Reeve, but there have been lots of days since I started).

Can you tell me or give me a hint? I'm going to find tattoo related things in the forest? Or I've already found them and I didn't notice?

Thanks :)

[Edited for a typo :)]

It hasn't been decided yet, and if it has been, then only the scripter and a few others know. But what the specials are/will do, will be implemented soon. So by then we will find out, I assume.

Well, that's something :)

That is what I want to know (well, I want to know what does each do, but this is difficult ;)). To know that I can spend my gems for tattoos and that ther are going to be useful... sometimes :)

They will do something. What? I don't know.

they already do something. however, they don't do something individually yet. there's nothing special about individual tattoos currently, except for the rare ones. but having a tattoo does have a game effect.

There is a special in the forest that is affected by the amount of tattoos you have.

Just a little curiosity of mine. I've alway wondered why the tattoos are shown as snake, rose, star, swan, dragon etc. instead of Snake, Rose, Star, Swan, Dragon etc.

I know that it doesn't really affect anything but why don't the tattoo names begin with capital letters like jewelry?

EDIT: Is it because the tattoos used to be shown as <Name> has been tattooed with a XXX?

Yes. =P

It's not all that often that a player picks up on the cheats and shortcuts that us code-types make.

I coded this a long time ago, and at the time I had no idea how to get around that. I know now that there are ways to individually capitalise each tattoo using code, but it presents problems when translating to other languages and when switching between the navigation items (headings you click) and the text in the middle of a sentence. It could probably be done, but is not likely to be worth the effort =)

For the trainspotters out there, count the number of instances in the game where a sentence is constructed in order to avoid using a gender-non-specific pronoun ;) The fact that English has no word meaning "either he or she" is hands-down the biggest headache for the text of the game! So you'll notice we often re-word the sentence to avoid he, she, his, hers, him, her, and so on.

To take a translation example, in german, proper nouns are always capitalised. If Saucy put in code to turn the first letter to a capital when listing them, that would probably break in german, and there is a large german community coding for the game.

Wow, that explains a lot. I didn't get a tattoo until very recently so I only just noticed it. I've also noticed the non gender-specific lines in the text quite often. I guess it's hard to code it while having to put so many things into consideration but I think you did a great job. At least I can understand what it's trying to tell me :Dor so I thought...

:likes using "their" to mean either he or she, even though it's improper English.

Yeah, the correct word is "it" but most people object to being called an it.

* SaucyWench sees Furion enter the thread and waves to it

See... it just looks wrong. In a case like this we'd say,

* SaucyWench sees a friend arrive, so waves to Furion

Usually we manage to make it look cleaner than that, of course. You'd not notice the vast majority, but occasionally there are awkward ones like that.

What about this Phoenix tattoo? Any chance I could get a little hint on how to get it.

**proudly shows off her rose, tiger, star, heart, and dragon tattoo**

If you can't give me a hint, I understand.

Slightly less wrong would be to use "they" for he or she. "Their" would more accurately be close to his or hers.

Oops, I meant his or hers. Good catch, Deimos.

I think that we need more tattoo options, someting mabye that we could unlock with each DK.
Dunno.

I know there is a relationship between a special item you can get in Saucy restaurant and tatoos, tough I didn't try it when I had the chance...

It is a very minimal benefit.

There's no other place to spend the special item (plans were made, but never came to fruition) so go ahead and use it next time.

I feel quite attached to my item. It makes me look so spiffing!

Is it a game secret as to how you can get the fire breathing dragon tattoo?

* begs*

Yes... unless it was, know it could be said with the new "policy"... anyway, I don't know how either :)

Personally I'd love to know that one too Merel... The Fire Breathing Dragon tattoo is the only one I don't know yet... anyone who knows, feel free to PM me an answer. ;-)

Tee hee, Milkboy is so bad he doesn't even *know* he cheats. :D

"Can you give me a hint on the phoenix tattoo? Please?"

:notes that that was not the actual quote and assures his buddy and clanmate that he is just joking, almost everyone is like that

Hehe, it took me a while to get my fire breathing tattoo. My foolishness led me to test my theories out with my ALTs. None of them worked and I just realised, "whoa maybe it's because they haven't even got the *other* tattoo yet!"

All, I have to say about getting the tattoo is, "Get drunk and forget about it!" *hint* *hint*

Word.

I won't comment on which tattoo is the prerequisite, but to get the fire-breathing dragon you must have one other tattoo first.

Incidentally, on Central all the tattoos have the same value against the tattoo monster, so it doesn't matter which ones you choose, *any* three are as powerful as any other three. There's a cap on how powerful tattoos can make you though.

Each tattoo adds the same amount of power, up to the 10th. After that, the 11th and subsequent tattoos do very little to add to your strength.

You mean tattoos mean something?

I thought they were just another way to spend some gems.

That and bragging rights.

(Haven't gotten them all yet, but I'm working on it.)

You've never encountered the tattoo monster? *blink* You deserve an award for amazing stealth power ;)

Next time read the screen and think about what it might mean... it mentions that the monster is frightened by one of your tattoos.

Never said I didn't encounter the tattoo monster. I've felt those tattoos burning.....
