View Full Version : Audrey-like Free Travel

Well, this was an idea that I had the other night when I was in Degolburg and ThantosFive had a "catapult" being dragged along with him. He was messing around and stuff, and I asked to be launched to Glorfindal from the catapult, since I was going there and logging out afterwords. So, he launched me, and I figured that this could be a good idea for the game.

Say that someone is out of free travels and forest fights, have already talked to Seth/Violet, and already seen Crazy Audrey in town, and they wanted to get to a certain town before they logged out. Well, ThantosFive could appear, like Audrey does, and offer to launch people to their selected town for a fee. However, like Audrey, there are sometimes other effects. For example: one might pay and get launched into the ground, getting killed from impact. Or, one might get accidetnally launched into the wrong town. Or perhaps one might get hit by random objects such as gryphons, sudden trees, flying @Mods, or other spontaneous objects. They could lose hitpoints from getting hit, etc.

If anyone has any comments, go ahead and post them. Just thought this would be an idea. :)

Unfortunately, cannons didn't really exist in early medieval times. We like to keep the technology similar to the era.

um, acemaster, a "catapult" is definitely technology for the era. they were invented by the greeks and used through the middle ages. no gun powder involved.

ye know, it is commonly thought of as the seige weapon that would be wheeled up to a fort. the firing bucket would drawn back with tension to create the torsion that would hurl stones into and over the wall.

there are different varieties of catapults that would use slings or buckets to get the projectiles to the structure under seige.

so, the idea for a "catapult" is well within the setting for this game.

I find this idea really amusing :D

No, I'm not going to code it though. I wonder if SonOfRamius has ever tried hitchhiking? ;)

ive been on several LoGD servers and i think that is on of the MOST original and one of the greatest ideas ive heard O.O

and if i was shown a guide to the common commands of scripting for LoGD i could probably pull it off, it looks very similar to scripting for Ragnarok Online

:thinks SonOfRamius has it all wrong. He floats everywhere. It's really quite different. :P

I liked your idea. I am still learning coding though, so I can't help with it. So I'll catapult you away with a favorite quote of JCP:

Codeityourself! (just kidding) :D

:teeheehees.

It sounds rather funny, even if it can't be done (at the moment).

Wouldn't be too hard to do, although you would have to have some soft of confirmation if you were to do it between players.

As well, I do believe HitchHiking should be modified, to be able to go to the outlying cities as well as going to the Capital, when out of FFs and FTs. :)

Just my two cents.

I would love to try and code this, if no-one minds. Just send me a pm and I'll start on it, ok? If some of you do mind, send me a pm also :)

Okay, I'm picking from replies, so live with it. =P

Yes, I hitchhike all the time. But I hate doing the man those favors.

I would code it meself, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Okay, yeah. Happy to see that people like the idea. Now I'm off, I need to go play. Like now.

I wonder if SonOfRamius has ever tried hitchhiking?

But hitchhiking only takes you one place - this could take you anywhere, and the "consequences" could be hilarious...

He was just explaining that he wasn't trying to say Waugh's name. I think you could say the same thing as "Whaa?", if you are a spelling person. It's fine.

I had an idea like this once, but instead of catapults it was "The Travel Master". He'd show you hidden passages in the forest "unbounded to maps like those that we normally travel." Unfortunately, his maps were sometimes unreadable so you might wind up in the wrong city, the same city with some missing forest fights, or take a wrong turn and just wind up in the Shades.

Yeah, I was *really* into Neil Gaiman at the time. This idea's better. 8)

The following has been suggested

1.The catapult tips over and falls on you (think Acme and the Road Runner)

2. It fires you into a rock wall. SPLAT.

3.You land in the local active volcano

4.The catapult sends you to a random city instead of the one you want to go to.

5.You land next to the Dragons cave(location unspecified) who promptly eats you with the comment "A catered meal..how thoughtful"

6.You are caught by a giant Roc and served up for dinner for its young (yes you may shudder)...

6.AND..the piece de resistance...you land smack dab in the middle of Lonestrider's camp, become unconscious on impact and lose gems.

I can think of a hundred other EVIL ideas for this one (okay so I'm a Wile E Coyote fan...sue me)...and will look at coding it.

Can't wait to find this one somewhere.

Too bad it's finished, though. It'd be neat to be able to land in Lonestrider's camp and *gain* seom gems for once. 8)

I just wrote a lengthy response to this and lost it because the server logged me out - well before any reasonable time limit (not more than three or four minutes). I'm too annoyed to try to re-create the thing right now. This happens to me on a regular basis - can't it be fixed? :x

I am not afront to implementing some sort of error while tossing. Currently, there are none.

Arg, I know what you mean, I now copy paste into word whenever I type something that takes up more than a few sentences. What really bursts my bubble is when a time out or disconnection takes away all the pretty orange unread colouring!

how strange. i remain connected for approximately thirty minutes each time i log in. i wander off to do other things, return, and am still connected perhaps the error is your internet connections and the ping to the site being disrupted.

There is an option somewhere to keep you logged in all the time. I believe it is re triggered when you log in. Try logging out, logging back in and seeing if it appears.

Same here! I don't get timed out from here, but when my crappy MSN disconnects, I lose the orange and whatever I posted. I have nearly sledgehammered my computer after such incidents.
