View Full Version : Armorless, weaponless DK challenge (possible spoilers)

I've finally managed the armorless, weaponless dragon kill challenge. That was the toughest challenge I've been through yet (in LOTGD of course...) !

It took me 54 days of misery and frustration. Plus I was blessed with Ramius curse that was painfully slow to wear off and that was completely removed only when I complete my DK. I'm sure I could do it faster now with all the new knowledge I've gained (through lot of blood and sweating). But I WON'T try it before a while.

Most important lessons of all, I learned to buff up before my forest fight, meaning getting all the buff I could even if there was only a very small benefit. I was lucky because at the end of my DK Esoterra was open and I could get quality drink at a very cheap price. (Getting up to 300 extra HP!)

Here are some mistake that I could have avoided for a quicker DK, highlight the text if you want to know them:
- I took the challenge and tought that I would be amassing enough gems to buy a gryphon, in fact I've spend an enormous amount of gem just to get enough HP to pass through my various masters (415 HP at the end, more than 120 gems spent on various stuff...). So I was stuck with my rock... wich was in fact very useful, I did most of my forest fight while I had turn with my mount and ran away the other times especially at higher level.

- The gold I spared by not buying equipment was more than compensated by the gold spent in healing, especially when you got an insane amount of HP. So I didn't get other tatoos and I minimised my spending.

- I did not switch off PvP because I tought blue candle would speed up my DK but at the end I couldn't use all my turns and I got very frustrated by people killing me while sleeping (sorry Sergei ; ) ) wich slow down my progress even more. Of course beating a player with your fist can be immensely gratifying but you have to wonder if it's really worth it.

-My DK points were not optimally distributed, so I was forced to use the orange candle, hp were worthless since I've buy them with gems so I split them evenly between defense and attack and my situation with my masters improved a bit.

- I seriously considered to switch to storm giant but I wasn't ready to get rid of the gem benefit for now.

Finally, do NOT underestimate the difficulty of beating your masters while weaponless and armorless, I found it way tougher than beating the dragon (took me only 3 try for the greenie).

So what time it took you to do the weaponless and / or armorless DK?
Did you had similar experiences / difficulties?
Some suggestions to improve my strategy that I may have overlooked?

I guess I would recommend to someone who is thinking of doing this to save up their gems beforehand. Once that New Day rolls around at level 1 you can put 60 gems or so on your health(sounded like you spent 150 gems total..) so it would be a start on how much you are going to put into health. Possibly getting the mount you want before doing it would also help, since it will be a lot of FF's like you said. I would try to stay away from slumming until you have no other choice, since all that exp adds up fast. And last but not least, good luck!

Congrats on your difficult feat, and I'm sorry it didn't go as planned but it sounds like you did gain some strategy lessons from it. I think it had to take a lot of patience to accomplish this, so good work ;)

My luck to you mate.
You have a quite bit of talent!!
I have never done it my self, but i have gotten pretty close on other servers. Mabye one day i'll break your record.
I personally armour up to protect myself from PVP's.

"about talking to your clan members"

I completely agree. your clan is the closest to your family, they're only there to guild & help you. Take advice from the wise and guide the needy.

First off: congratulations on a non-equipment DK, Bad!

I had my own funtime with just fists and a t-shirt. Similar problems came up and with my wee little brain and its deduction capacity came up with the following strategy;

I believe it was on my 14th or 15th DK. I started out as a Felyne, like I always do, no extra HP whatsoever and was able to make it safely till level 12-13. My masters before that were hard but I managed to level-up after a few rematches. It was on level 13 that I found it near impossible to beat Adoawyr even though I was able to complete all the special bounties and slay everything is sight being Cerberus (was it?) or Gorgon. I didn't even lose to Lonestrider once even while carryin 100+ gems. However, my aforementioned master was a pain and I was stuck for nearly 20 days, getting beat in the morning without a second chance. So I came up with an idea,

From my experience I guessed that extra attack or defence, especially races that promote those attributes probably have more effect on a fight than just making you hit harder or get hit less. So I used my gems, switched to Troll, spent them on the orange candle to put all my DK points into defense, and overdosed on Cedriks potion to get a heap of HP, then waited for the New Day. It worked out just like I planned, the extra HP gave me more rounds since I don't die too soon, the extra defense meant I had a higher chance of minimising/riposting attacks, and being Troll benefited from the extra rounds by producing a string of power moves. I was able to beat Adoawyr that day and Yoresh was a piece of cake. Not to mention that the Dragon was suprisingly easy.

Nice thing to note is that I probably had 65,000+ experience by the time I reached level 15 so I was a very nice, juicy, tasty meal for almost anyone who wanted exp. I also remember a frequent customer. :D

Well, that's my say. I'm sure there are lots of other ways to get a weaponless/armourless DK (I've seen/guessed how other people tried a few strategies) and some may be faster than mine which took 42 days. To everyone, their own

Cheers!

Well thanks PiRa!

Wow your DK seem to have been much smoother than mine (except the 20 days thingie with Adwares )

I did all the special bounty too but I didn't get the chance to beat other special monster except the Marrow Eater so I guess I'll have to try it again and hope for an easier time.

A blessing to ye oh Orange candle

I did it again and it went much smoother. In 11 days and no resurrection this time. A visit to Polarea Borealist help me boost my hitpoint before a fight with my masters. A gryphon can help too. The cherry on the sundae was getting a flawless fight against the green one tough.

I'm impressed with Mess who accomplished a T-shirt and bare fist DK with only PvP, that's something I would never try. ;)

Congratulation buddy!

Thanks
Quite a DK I had. Seemed nearly impossible when I got stuck for 20 days at level 13. And I kind of, feel silly to try it out at that level of DK. Darn that Heidi keeping secrets from me. ;) I also had some good earnings from the PVP, which helped me to send some gifts for christmas :)
And by the end of the DK I still had 7000 gold in bank. Wasted. Ha

I spent nearly 70 gems on Vitality (and out of foolishness 20 gems were spent on Health. So a total of 90 gems were spent). Those 70 gems include 30 that I had on hand and 40 gems which I received after selling off my mount after I reached level 10
I made it to level 4 (or was it 5) on plain HP. And suddenly the truth dawned upon me. Tynan's Gym! It was like having one DK per FF (Heidi, you listening? I don't care about your secrets anymore) I spent most of my FFs on Muscles and Agility, using the rest to travel looking for PVP. And the good part is those added Atk and Def points don't wear off overnight. So one can build up on previous training and continue making muscles. So that's about it. Although I regret not visiting The Dark Horse Tavern wherein I could have gotten all the info I would need about my prospective victims. They were just being taken so quickly before I could say "Ah!". But anyways thats the price I had to pay for selling my mount.
And lastly a good thing happened. I discovered this switch speciality thing. Totally awesome.
And I plan to use it in my next DK. Well, thats about it.. I wish you all planning to do something similar a very best of bestest luck :P

I know this topic is old but I feel this is a valid question on this topic to add and not worth an entirely new thread:

Now bearing in mind I am Dragoncat would it actually be possible to do this challenge with a new account? because the challenge as it stand I have done several times with my 136 DK character so I wanted it to be at least a little tougher without having to use the wax based method to redistribute DK points, cheers

It would be nigh impossible. You usually can't even beat Mireraband without armor and weapons.

I got to level 3 (maybe it was 2, I forget now) when I tried it ages ago without equipment and stuff, would not a huge amount of HP do it? because remember at least you get 1 attack and 1 defense point for levelling up each time

Here's the problem I face: Whenever I fight Mireband, he usually flawlesses me.

Is there a race that gives you an attack buff?

Human - extra turn
Elf - extra defence
Troll - extra attack
Dwarf - more gold
Feline - more gems
Storm giant - Boulder + Defence

Would it be considered cheating to use storm giant on a first dk challenge? if it is indeed impossible without it, at least with S.Giant it would be possible but very tough

Why would it be considered cheating? I think it would be possible though... I'm fairly certain that there's a race-changing NPC that you can use to access storm giant before the first dragonkill, but you would have to leave Wen before fighting Mireband (sp!!!)

But when you buy the blood, you get changed straight away.

But when you buy the blood, you get changed straight away.

I don't honestly remember so I'll have to belive you on that one, if so then sure go for it!

I wondered if it was concidered cheating not in the traditional sense but in a purist sense as it is not a basic race

Really, anyone who does a weaponless/armorless DK on their first kill commands great respect. I've seen players who have millions of gold because they were level 1 in Wen and unable to beat their first master (HelpfulHypatia, anyone?) No equipment = no success, unless RNG is on your side, and in a huge way.

Use storm giant blood if you must.

What would everonwe say is an acceptable amount of dk's for this challenge to actually be a challenge? I have got to the stage now (and quite some time ago) where I did this almost by accident (forgot to buy equipment) so just carried on and did it anyway

X-Kal

I'd personally think the sooner, the better. At 100+ kills, it's no challenge at all, for example. Perhaps a thread where people come in and brag about their armorless kills, and report how many days it took them, and what temporary buffs they used?

RichPlaystation

I'd say 2 dk's would be ok, at least then you could have an extra attack and defense point

Can farmies buy magic elixers with gems? To increase their max HP?

I started a new character, and am producing a weaponless/armorless/DKless DK (stablehand). *groans* This means I have four characters now. I'm gonna need to redo my turns on the others so I'm not spending too much time in the forest.

I was actually amazed at what kind of damage I just did to Mireraband. I pulled off 11 damage before I was defeated! ELEVEN! That's so cool, and so not cool at the same time.

Right, but it makes masters tougher. 0DK fist and T-shirt is very hard, if not entirely impossible. I tried, and got up to 400hp at level 4 before giving in and Buying weapon and armour.

yeah, i tried on my last dk and got to about lvl 12 before giving in. i'm trying again now... but i'm only at about lvl 8. after having read all this, i shall have to pay more attention and see how things go.

maybe the strategy will have to change already...

I managed my first fist and t-shirt around 28, I think. Managed another around 50+, and I've not attempted any since. I suspect I'd do okay. Cassowary, and 119DKs afford a little bit of protection there ;-)
