I'm having a slight problem, and wondered if anybody might know why?

When I access the gemdust server with Internet Explorer from home, I get 1 or 2 pages just fine, then it slows to a riduculously slow speed, and as you know, because of the low player online, gemdust is very, very fast. If I change to Netscape, everything is peachy keen and ducky.

I can access central with IE just fine.

And I can access gemdust with IE from work (shsh)

I know it has to be my machine, but I can't figure out what it could be.

I'm running McAfee firewall and privacy service, have a cable modem, Windows XP and Norton anti-virus.

I wish I knew =(

My only suspicion is the way the caching works.

In Internet Explorer, the browser checks for a newer version of the page, and if a newer version doesn't exist, it loads the page it has stored in its cache. So there's a delay before the page begins loading. This leads to up to date information all the time. This is good.

In Firefox, it loads the stored page and THEN checks if a newer page exists. While this is much faster, be VERY careful on pages like Captcha - I have seen the page load then the captcha characters suddenly change right before my eyes. It is also the cause of a lot of people getting stuck in Badnav loops because they click an "old" link before the page finishes updating.

If your browser is WAY slower than this (which you indicate) it might be the actual cache settings. IE lets you set the amount of space for the cache, in the Options. Try setting at least 64Mb of space if it will let you. The bigger the better. Also, set it to discard pages older than 14 days.

Have changed settings, although storage space was already way more than that, will try this evening and see how it goes. Still freaks me out that it happens on gemdust, not on central.

Thanks Saucy
