View Full Version : How recent changes in Classic affect strategies

I don't know for sure if the recent changes on Classic (we all know of what I'm speaking about) have affected to the amount of players actually "playing" on the site... but lately I found that it is more difficult to find people on the square to PVP, when before it was quite easy... I think that now we're kinda living some "evolution of the species", because there are too many "big fishes" on the pool looking for people to slay, and everytime is harder to find them (and at higher levels, lately it's almost impossible).
For example, today, I'm at level 14, and people "free to PVP" on the whole realm are BigBenjo (and I won't try it... yet ;) ) and 19 more people at the Inn... That's basically no one.
I think that if the amount of player decreases a lot (who can't handle lots of people trying to PVP 3 times a day! :D), lots of strategies are going to change... I'm thinking changing mine to a forest fights one instead of power.
What do you think? Did you notice the same?

Hmm, not really, because I've been contenting myself to using the smaller fish to boost my experience bar; until I get around 30 Att and Def each, I'm not confident yet that I can take on any of the bigger guys (you all know who you are ).

Of course I'm not counting myself as a "big fish" :P
But they don't let anything worthy on the fields for the rest... except for them! And I'm not confident yet either... (and I still got to play for a while to get something near ;) ).

I agree with you, one thing I have started doing is checking who is available at each level, in case someone juicy is sitting at level 7 when I would usually perhaps wait to PvP and never notice them. Basically, in the past I'd wait and spend my 3 PvP's in succession, looking for those 2 levels above me only.
Now I carefully consider those 1 level and the same level as I as there are a lot of pretty powerful players running around that I can now beat and are probably carrying a decent amount of Exp to exploit. And there are a few players using certain strategies that I know they are easy pickings at the moment.

Speaking as a pretty good-sized fish, I usually manage to find sufficient targets when I'm looking. My preference is 30 - 90 DKs, 2 levels above me.
I also seem to serve as PvP fodder to the same three Dragon Masters over and over and over and... :P

I'll brag here a moment. I recently survived an onslaught in the fields from Mr JRMinga himself, for the first time ever. No such luck with Sabu, Gargoyle and co... yet.

Waugh, I'll do similar as you. I only used to PVP two levels above.. but now, even same level can be interesting when I find them.
Oh, and I can brag about JRMinga too!
He attacked me today, and I took him 5 hp! :D
I see his reign as a Dragon Master arriving to an end

Well he'll always be a Dragon Master. He just may have to pick on others when he gets hungry.

I survived JRMinga and then 2 out of 3 attacks from Sabu recently! These were over the course of a few days but still it made me happy :)

Actually, Ottomancer, you were right, there are fewer players now. A lot have dropped recently, I know AVAST has lost a noticable amount of its lurking members.

Well, not quite a "lot".
The normal player numbers for the past year fluctuated between 5,800 and 6,200. The current numbers represent a drop of less than 10% player base.

I only usually have trouble when at level 13-15, but I always did, even when picking on farmies, which I've all but stopped now, so.... go figure
I prefer 10-20DKs 2 levels above, but will take anything down to 5 DKs in a pinch, and I usually spend my pvps at the end of the day, unless I'm nearing dragon killing time, when I'll usually use them early, hoping to boost exp without wasting buff rounds

The only time 19 people is no one is when you palate is so rarefied, only royalty will do. Which is unrealistic, unless you're one of the sharks (like, say, Gargoyle, who seems to like my XP :P).
Granted, I have noticed an XP drop in my PvPs, primarily because I can rarely find anyone above 5-6 DKs, but that hasn't much changed the way I play.
A bigger worry for me has been keeping up with the kind of forest creatures I've started to encounter since I reached godhood. When a level 1 something or other hits me in one hit for more HP than I have with buffs, it's time to reconsider my strategy.

Hey I never got a chance to congratulate you on reaching godhood, so I'll say it here, now.
Congratulations!

Read this guys. It's very important. How many of us were fearing the numbers would dwindle down by half or more? I'm still seeing new farmies join the game on a daily basis. For the time being at least, the server numbers are going strong!

So there are benefits to bumbling along DKing slowly. Long live the BoI!

Oh yeah, sorry about that. I didn't mean to exaggerate, and actually tried to word my response pretty carefully. I agree with Waugh and Lauri.
