I've tried everything and still can't seem to get the phoenix tattoo to appear at Petra's can someone please give me a hint?

Nobody ever achieved to get that tatoo, it's more of a myth actually. Somebody once told me that you've got to have at least 50 dragon kill, that the three moon must be in phase and that your weapon should not have shed blood for a full cycle. But even then the tatoo would probably not appear.
I wish you luck!

Umm... I've got a phoenix tattoo, and I've had to do precisely zero of those things. Well, I've had the 50+ dragonkills at the time, but I know someone who got it before his first.

Which is what X-Kal was hinting at.

Oh THAT pheonix tatoo! I got that one. I was sure we were talking about a totally different one. Or maybe I was intoxicated when I heard that. Yeah probably drunk from all that Dragon breath. But in the present case, it's definitely wash, rinse and repeat. Whatever it may means. ;)

You're already on the right track as it is. There's no key combos you can enter, or any easy ways out to get this one.
And you don't need to buy a specific mount to get this tattoo

it's also a whole lot easier to get that tattoo when you're new than when you're a veteran. trust me on this one.

Indeed, I have seen alot of farmies with the qualification and they don't even realise alot of the time :(

so you're saying i should go thrillseeking a lot after i kill the dragon this go (not a farmie any more, but i'm still fairly close)?
RichPlaystation
06-03-2006, 03:40 PM
If you want to sure, there are several methods to doing it and that would be one of the easiest starters
X-Kal
06-03-2006, 06:00 PM
At level 1, it becomes alot easier, largely due to the fact that a thrillseek/suicidal search will almost always kill you - especially if you've worn down all your buffs.
Level 14 is supposed to be preferable, since you've still got the opportunity to earn gold from monsters, but you don't have the pesky townspeople in the way. ;)
I got my phoenix tattoo at level 15, and that worked marvellously for me, but it has its drawbacks. Here, I'll go into details:
The first thing is that you have to rush straight into the forest the instant your day starts. Do not stop by your clan halls, the bank, or ANYTHING. Literally run into the forest and thrillseek/suicidal hunt without healing until you die. You won't get to keep ANY gold. It sucks, I know... but what were you going to spend the gold on anyways? Hats? I've got a nice size 65-66 hat, and I'll probably earn more gold when I hit dragonmaster. :D
If you go straight to the forest and die, you'll avoid the pesky townspeople trying to force you into some spooky cave. It's also advisable that you do this from Glorfindal - where you'll see Petera. I got to level 15, died repeatedly, QUICKLY got my tattoo and slew the dragon the instant I got it. It kept my game days very short - that's the big plus side 8)

nope. it'd be nice, though...
X-Kal
06-03-2006, 10:35 PM
Hrm... then I've gotta be earning my gold faster from some other source. Back at about ~54 dragonkills, I was making it to about ~30,000 gold by dragon-killing time. I've since increased that to ~45,000-55,000 gold, but I'm alot better with my turns than I was before :)

X-Kal you were very lucky. From day 3 at level 15 the chance of being swooped or carried to the cave goes up every day until it's virtually unavaoidable. Do it at level 1 ;)

Hehehe... I was swept up precisely once. No offense though, but for being virtually unavoiadable, I had it pretty easy
Not reccomended for newbies, I suppose... but oh well. I only have to get the tattoo once

All this phoenix tattoo talk gave me a hankering for it, as well as resulting in some kicking of myself for not getting it when I saw it on the tattoo list last time. After some rinsing and repeating it has still not appeared. Would I be correct to assume it is not merely the number of certain events that trigger the tattoo, but what you do and save up during that event?
On the bright side one of the perks of trying to get this tat, is getting 60 gems before even hitting level 10 as a felyne.
Guess who, and then use more appropriate language.
RichPlaystation
06-08-2006, 03:51 PM
Yes, what you are doing (I assume) is correct and you will need to do it a fair amount so keep at it and you will have a nice new sexy tat in no time
If you haven't die at least 25 times, it won't be offered. Or is it a thousand times? Must be somewhere between but I can't remember where exactly.

Hmmm - is it possible to get one of these as a vet? I've been playing awhile...or do I have to create a new character to find this thing??

It doesn't matter how long you've been playing. The requirements for the phoenix tattoo are fairly simple - as long as you know what they are, and are patient enough to fulfill them. Yes, you... *points at you* can still get the phoenix tattoo.

yes, it's all about travels to another city. in classic at least, you only have 3 rounds for the dragon's breath drink, and if you get accosted in your travels, well, you know. fights usually take 3 or more turns unless you're really good. oh, wait, you've got 200+ dragon kills...

No I understand, even at such a high level I get attacked alot, and I had to have a few attempts before it didn't happen (the 'affect' wareing off) so no guarentees for anyone with any amount of DK's

I'm still convinced that the more DKs you get, the longer your waylays are... to a certain extent, though. I recently got a 12-monster or 13-monster waylay on XKal, and he's got about 33 dragonkills, last I checked.

I'm sure I have confirmed this before. The code is written that way - the chance you will be waylaid is directly proportional to your number of dragon kills.

I'll actually agree with you on this but I know there's a mental factor involved in that, too. I think it's similar to the idea the Audrey appears more often immediately after you've deposited ALL your gold. Even if it is hard-coded, you'll think it happens more frequently than it really does.

And this is why ;)
Rich, waylaying is definitely directly proportional to how many DKs you have - but the number of DKs affects the chance, not guarantees you being waylaid. If you can't remember, as a farmie you would have felt your heart race when you got waylaid (and that was just for one waylay). I have never seen a farmie claim more than three in a row. If you're in doubt, create a char on lotgd.net just long enough to spend your entire ~13 turns/travel points moving from city to city. It's likely that most of the trips will have no waylay.
Valancy
10-02-2006, 10:02 PM
fair enough. i figured there was a decent chance it was in my head or just coincidence at any rate. besides that, whenever i travel now, i tend to carry a fair amount of gold, anticipating waylays. guess i can quit now!
