This is how I have been taking on the multiple monster threat and surviving fairly well. I am hoping this will help out or give ideas to those who are utterly frustrated and ready to quit. I really want to see this work. The DP people have a good idea here - it just needs major tweaking, and we are their guinea pigs.

First I will say that I am a storm giant, and I have found this to be immensely helpful. Know that storm giant is a donator race, but it is not as expensive on DP as it is on Central, so that's a thought for those who might be interested. The regular "free" races also work - storm giant just helps a wee bit more.

First rule of multiple enemies - knock down the hardest one first. Don't waste precious resources on the weak ones; let 'em hit you. I usually beat the first down to about half to 3/4 health, then I switch targets to the NEXT highest hp (or level) monster and beat IT to half or 3/4 hp. Then I switch targets again to the third. Let your chance for Riposte beat down the ones you are not fighting. I can usually kill the first monster this way.

If you are fully buffed, you can usually safely hit 5. Check your hp vs theirs - if you're good you can hit 5 again. After that do single turns. Pay attention to your hp vs theirs, and don't be afraid to gamble a LITTLE. Switch targets to keep them all fairly beat down. Use your buff abilities JUDICIOUSLY; wait until it looks like you will have to run before hitting that regen button. (In my experience the Mystic's regen ability is favored, at least at the low DK levels as things stand right now - because that's a mid-fight heal.)

Second rule - Drink as much as you can as often as you can. Yes it takes longer to keep going back into town - but the alternative is Slumming and taking forever to level. While you are in town, throw money down Heidi's well - there is no limit to good deeds, whereas Cedrick will cut you off until you can stand up and order a drink. Be the perviest Albatross fancier in the village. Tie the knot with those lusty Inn denizens. Keep your mount as well fed as the game allows. ie - avail yourself of every possible buff this game offers and that you can afford. And renew them as often as you can or are allowed.

Thirdly, if your buffs are running out, either slum that fight or renew what buffs you can before hitting Look. Combining Looking with Slumming seems to help. As things stand right now, all Looking is usually too deadly (or costly), and all Slumming is just too darned slow. Also this will help with the gold situation, because all that drinking and donating and albatross petting - and don't forget healing - gets expensive. Keep your armor/weps at level or better if you can. Buy a couple extra hp from Cedrick for that Run "cushion" to help you escape if need be.

That's how I have been doing it. So far it is working for me. Others might find other way better for them. But it's a place to start. Hope this helps.

/me runs off to increase the price of Storm Giants and change a bunch of other settings.

No, not really!

A couple other things I've noticed:

Obviously, you'll take more damage when you've got 3 opponents as opposed to reducing that number to 2 or 1. If you've killed off all but the last opponent, and your HP is more than, say...15...use single round fights and you might be surprised to find yourself defeating that monster which had 75 HP while you only lose 1 or 2 more.

Run is always an option! I normally use my previously mentioned point, but if I get down to 10 HP I will run.

In the DP LoGD game, you get XP each time you defeat an opponent, but only collect gold once you've killed them all. After all, who has time to rifle opponent's pockets for gold while running from their friends? Kill as many as you can before using the Run option.

I think I can add a little more here without spoiling too much...

1. Watch the hitpoints of your opponents closely. Let me set up a couple of examples with the following Horde:

A Level 10 with 20 HP
B Level 12 with 80 HP
C Level 10 with 80 HP
D Level 11 with 4 HP
You're level 10 with 40 hitpoints

If you're all alone with no buffs and no protection, Target monster D. Kill it off since it will hopefully die with just one stroke. You'll get the Exp (as Talisman mentioned... in case you have to run you'll get something!) because you're probably going to be running away.

If you have a Buff running that will hit ALL the monsters (they exist... you'll have to experiment to find them!) then ignore Monster D because most likely it will die from the buff damage. Instead, target monster A and hope to kill both of them with your next hit.

If you just got a super kick huge buff and your attack buff is more than your current attack (ie 20+22), consider going after Monster B. If you get a power move you may be able to knock it out with one hit... remember, excess damage doesn't roll over. If you hit monster A for 80 hitpoints, you've wasted 60 hitpoints of damage.

Here's one of the things I've been doing: When I start the day and I've got everything at full strength, I cautiously thrillseek. As soon as I lose either all my buffs or use up all my specialty points, I move down to Looking. Then, when I'm out of both I go to slumming.

I have no advise for people that want to search suicidally. If you do that, you'll find that being suicidal really means suicidal now. At level 10 with everything maxed out, I have accidentally hit suicidal and died in 2 turns with all the monsters (I think there were 6 of them... I have mentally blocked it out) feasting on my tasty marrow.

How many DKs do ye have Dave? I only have 2, and I can't speak for my fellow Villagers, but so far Thrillseek has been QUITE deadly. But tis VERY good to know that it becomes a careful option within a few DKs from where we are now.

I am probably going to have to upgrade my lizard after this DK - I need something that lasts longer - probably those good ole Horses I had way back when on Central/Classic.

And it is VERY good to know that a real damage shield (something that hits ALL the monsters) exists in this game. Now to find it.

I think I'm up to 6 or 7 dks...

As to thrillseeking, it is definitely doable with the right buffs; even at 2 dks. I still hit the "run" key once in a while!

hence why while it is a harrowing experience as we have the site set right now, if it were the default of 10DKs and less frequently occurring, the risk to one's person would be a bit minimised.

it would be more of a specia occurrence and would be some spice to otherwise dull forest fights.

I find that if you're fully healed, you can usually go five at least once.
