You can encounter LoneStrider even if you have no gems. If you have less than the game setting* he will leave you alone.

*setting is a secret, and it is the number jcp picked in the game admin tools, and it is the same for EVERY player.

The more gems you carry, the more likely you are to meet him in the forest. After all, they make a jangling noise in your purse.

Farmcreatures are NOT at a disadvantage here. If a farmie has played a month and never seen him, Gods have probably fought about 100 times more forest fights than them in that month. Just by the law of averages, we are more likely to run into him.

Additionally - to show you I do have Farmie Empathyâ„¢ - I have even coded more than one part of the game which favours farmies. So there. :P

I don't see what everyone's problem with poor ole Lonestrider is. Once you get past a farmy you can kill him with the aid of your mount and maybe a backstab or two.

Personally, I usually kill him in two turns with Poison Blade. I don't feel that the rewards equal to the damage that fellow does.

By that I mean, I think the reward from killin him and his chumps should be multiplied by 4

Read my last post Asylum. Lonestrider is not a pushover at my level ...and I have a couple of dragon kills.

Ok, maybe you're just not thinking of Lonestrider the right way.

Lonestrider is not "a forest fight with extra rewards or penalties".

Lonestrider is a "very bad thing that you can sometimes get lucky and profit from".

I think I was intimating that once you've played the game for a little while you get more used to fighting things that hit you 8 times a round.

And I never said he was a pushover, I said he could be killed with buffs.

I don't see the point in hanging onto gems unless you're starting your own clan. I'm not talking about farmboys saving up for their first mounts, I'm talking about you guys who've already got your owls, ravens, Violet earrings, extra charm and forgetfulness and whatever, bought Foilwench a 24-gem necklace... once you've got all that and a tattoo, I see no point in keeping more than than a handful of gems at any one time.

But then again, I'm a rather casual player and don't even have enough DKs to qualify for BAD, soooo... perhaps I'm just missing something. For you guys hanging onto more than a handful of gems, who've already acquired all the things I've mentioned above-- without spilling any game-code secrets-- please tell me why?!

They're pretty and shiny, which is good enough for me... also, i know a couple other people who like pretty shiny things, so i always have some on hand in case i run into them.
Also, there's always the chance that there'll be something new and cool in the Stables or elsewhere that wants more than a handful of gems. I remember being really annoyed when the Gryphon first came out and i managed to save up enough gems about two days after it was pulled.

Maybe some people can kill him with buffs but I have not been able to in the last 5-10 encounters so I never even try anymore. Maybe it has something to do with how many hitpoints I have but whatever it is, I cannot kill him.
