Also some pets fit with some play styles better. Really the best way to know is to try them all out. Also just beacuse one is not good for you at a particular time does not meant that it might not be later. The one thing to remember with this game is that exploration is part of the fun.

If you read the descriptions carefully at Merrick's or Bertold's, there are hints there as to what the various mounts and familiars do for you. Apart from that, it's basically trial-and-error. Even if you buy a creature and at first glance you think you hate it, try it for a few days - you may decide you like it after all!

Creatures like Classic's Ettile are far more useful at level 1 than 15. The Gryphon is the reverse.

:finds the gryphon quite handy for beating Lonestrider at Level 1

Bought a Gryphon on my last DK. And am still busy trying to find some faults in it. (Does rarity counts?)

I used the Gryphon for a long time and it rocked. I now have a Clockwork Scorpion. For my playing style, it rocks even more.

I had the cheetah for ages then the ettile and now I have the Clockwork Cassowary all I enjoyed and I love my Cassowary

As Pwyll says certain mounts are aimed at complimenting certain playing styles.

As annoying as it can be the best way is to just try one for a dk and see if you like it' Also a bit of searching on these forums provides a fair amount of info on the familiars and mounts as well!

<3's his gryphon

Been considering the clockwork scorpion though. We'll see...

Yeah, try something out, not just for a few levels, but for a DK or two, as some of those mounts really are powered by very odd things...
